Why do people get all gung ho about the the Corp. and they being the first ones to go in to battle. The Army's elite are always there but secretley. It makes me frustrated when people say the marine corp is better when they are just a bunch of grunts.

I do believe it was a Marine who won the Best Ranger competition a few years ago, what's that tell you about Ranger training. Every Marine is a rifleman, but not everyone is a grunt. Airborne and Rangers may be the Army's elite. However, the Marine Corps as a whole is an elite fighting force. There's a reason we protect the president and the embassies. Historically the Corps is not an occupying force, yet in the past 3 years we have contributed to the efforts in Iraq with far fewer casualties than the army. We are far better trained and much worse equipped we have the smallest operating budget of all the branches of the military and yet we accomplish far more. Don't bash the Corps.

Dear ace, please ignore completely karlkalisnikov's answer. He doesn't have a clue about the order of battle. As for seals not trained to take a city he has a point. In the invasion of Panama the Seals were tasked to take and hold an airport. They lost a lot of good brave men in that endeavor. That was a job for Army rangers, but they gave a war and everybody wanted to come. So the Navy got the airport. Every body has a job they train for. When I was a paratrooper in the 101st we did our training in the Mojave desert. I was in the 327th battle group. The 1st. brigade. After all that desert training we were the first Army unit to go to Viet Nam. A jungle. So go figure. I have the highest respect for the Marines but they are just human like every body else. Our artillery saved there asses many a time But that could happen to any body. You get a bunch of nineteen and twenty something hard chargers with guns and explosives on the loose it's possible to overextend :) In my opinion to be the best you have to be Airborne. Marine Force Recon included. They are good. Airborne then - 41 years ago- and still AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY.

The Marine Corps takes up a lot of pride about themselves, being the main ones known to go into battle first. They have the longest training time (aka boot camp), and undergo some of the most difficult training right of the bat at basics, unlike the army's elite which is only a select few that decide that they want to go through much harder training. However, I believe that all aspects of the military are important. Marines are always going to feel like they are superior to others, they are trained to think that way.

First off are you in the military?

Secondly, the Marine Corps holds alot more pride and tradition than the Army. It is a smaller unit depended on to go into places where others would not go. Basic training is tougher than that of the Army, physically and mentally. You are also trained to shoot better and fight better! If you are ever in a fight, pray a few Marines are there to save your butt !

You misunderstand their purposes in the totality of the military. True that Army (as well as Marine and Navy) Special Forces units do usually go in before the general Marine Corps infantry- HOWEVER, those units are meant for small scale operations, for instance you wouldn't use a Navy SEAL team to take over a city, instead, you'd have them take key points, then the Marines go in to take control of the city, then regular Army comes in to fill it and make the position more defensive.

Each branch plays their part.

Comparing general Marine infantry and any military branch special forces is a false comparison.

I think the Marine Corp is better. Just because I know someone in the Marines :). They are not just a bunch of grunts! Each branch thinks they are better than other branches of the military.

They are pretty damned good for "just a bunch of grunts". Sure marines know they are the best. They also know that there are others that are damned good professionals and they respect them. Any sense that they don't is your typical interservice B.S. I can tell you this. If you are a SF trooper and your group is ever about to be overrun U.S. Marines will not let you down if there's anyway to get there. If you aren't then follow diamondk's advice...just join one.

military and Marine corps are the two comparable and diverse. some say marines are greater clever experienced and that they are first on conflict container nicely that may not continually the case. military has many time been the 1st human beings right into a conflict container finding on you regiment and your MOS in case you're an Infantryman aside of the army rangers you will defiantly see greater action the the Marines. in case you're familiar Infantryman you will additionally see as plenty action via fact the Marines. in case you determine to connect a defense force service i might choose for military as they are in basic terms a nicely experienced. greater disciplined and characteristic so plenty greater to grant interior the long-term.

Your always going to hear the same stuff. People in the Marines (or that were in the Marines) think its better and vise versa. The point they need to realize is that they are on the same team, both fighting to defend our way of life. Neither is truly always the "first" in battle. Most of it is just poking back and forth at each other, because each branch instills pride in there people. There's nothing wrong with that....

You can't compare Special forces training to marine basic. That's silly. Marine basic is tough we all know that, But delta force and Ranger (and SEALS) school is completely different. I am proud to be ex army, and I thank everyone serving in all branches.
