Keep your mind and your hands occupied. Read a book or do some sort of craft. Clean up the house or go through some paperwork or write in a journal/blog. You could also try to do some fun activities. Go swimming or riding a bike. Anything that will keep your mind off smoking. Don't keep talking about smoking. It will only make it worse. Go play some online games or some other fun websites. Also, remove everything that reminds you of smoking, ashtrays, lighters, any items from Marlboro and the like.

Go places where you can not smoke - movie theaters, most malls, shopping, child care centers, etc. Take in a few matinees. Go to the library and spend the day reading up on subjects regarding your health and how smoking affects it. Chew a lot of Nicorette gum. Immerse yourself in a hobby such as painting. Then, when you are done doing all that, run around the block a few times, take a hot shower and go to sleep. I quit smoking "cold turkey" six years ago.

Chew a lot of gum; it's not the cigarettes that are addicting, but the oral fixation that it provides - which is why most people gain weight after quitting smoking. Get a toothpick, a straw, gum, mints, sucker, etc. That should help make it a bit easier.

You need to last three weeks in order to get rid of your bodily addiction. If you make that deadline, good chance you will succeed in quiting. Try to divert your attention: have sex, do some sports, walk your dog, take a sleeping pill, anything goes as long as you don't touch the cigarettes

Nothing really works.

No matter what, you're going to find a way to smoke.

You just have to be strong. The best way is to go camping for 3 or 4 days. That way you can't get to any cigs.
