Because the immigrants are cleaning the streets and doing all odd jobs that have to be done. At the same time the government can not publicly support illegal immigrants. They still want legal immigrants so that they will get more from them thru taxes.
They are just using third world people and expecting to be thanked!

I think the answer is in your question. The question should be a statement: "The Government isn't doing anything about the immigration problem at the border." So the question then is not "why" because we know why. Because immigrants work for business for very low wages and most republicans are in lock step with business. Case closed.

Probably because getting rid of all illegal immigrants would have a devestating effect on our economy. Most immigrants are working in crap jobs that most of us legals are just too lazy or proud to do. The whole immigration issue is just a distraction to try to clear the publics mind of the presidents f**k up in Iraq, and it seems to be working.

well, certainly they are doing "something" about it

there are hundreds of INS officers constantly catching and deporting thousands of illegal aliens

we are not devoting nearly enough resources to actually control the situation, so more illegals are entering the country than are being expelled, and many are expelled and return within hours

the reason we are not expending more resources are the same old reasons:

* nobody want to spend a lot of money beefing up barriers and enforcement officers
* many people do not want the laws enforced because it would hurt their business
* their are many other groups who support not enforcing our immigration laws, and their lobby is significant

- have 6000 troops albiet not in patroling yet but there

- ICE in four months went from almost no one to 52,000 deportations a week

- States and cities passing their own immigration relief

- We killed the Senate Bill

- More and more employers face long jail sentences and millions in fines

it's not much for the last four months, but not only are you lying, but

YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET.
