Thinking is a function of the mind which is a subtle material substance. Hence the thoughts are subtle physical expressions of the movements of our minds. The mind moves according to our desires. They are acted upon through the senses of the gross material body.
Originally our desires are spiritual, but due to the contact with matter they have become contaminated and perverted. Then our minds became polluted with material thoughts of lording it over material nature. Therefore now in our contaminated state of consciousness we are acting as the lords and enjoyers of everything around us.
