If you haven't noticed, it's a scary world. Your twins are lucky to have a Mom & Dad that love them & worry about their well-being. The reality of our world, being what it is, can be overwhelming. Your husband is taking the right course to answer this natural curiosity and at the same time spending valuable time with the kids. The shooting sports can be a wonderful bonding force for the entire family & it sounds like your husband is taking the proper steps to ensure the kids get the correct, safe picture of firearms & firearm safety. So Mom, you'll NEVER get over the "white knuckles"( you should have seen my Mom when I left for Vietnam!), but try to rest assured that your kids are in good hands & just maybe, you should go along once to see what all the fuss is. Who knows, you might enjoy it!

Ignorance is a horrible thing (see Juan's answer above) The key to understanding and safety is education. I am sure that your husband is a fine teacher and role model for the boys. I would suggest that he also enroll them in a safety course to reinforce that the rules must be followed at all times. If he is taking them to a public range then they already know that there are strict safety rules that must be followed by young and old. As far as history goes it is another great form of education, if they have interest they are more apt to read, research and study....what great skills these make as they progress in school and become thoughtful, educated individuals that can contribute more to society than the mindless spreading of propaganda (see Juan's answer one more time) Congratulations dad and maybe mom should go to the range once in a while and see what has the boys so fascinated.

If more people studied and understood World History and particularly the history of wars, society would be less apt to keep repeating the events which lead up to them.
You husband is a licensed gun owner and responsible law abiding citizen, no? Where is the problem with him bringing up your children in a manner which will grow them into responsible MEN? Society wonders often, "Where have all the MEN gone?" Be proud of your husband raising MEN.
Guns are the tools by which freedom is gained and kept.

Nothing wrong with understanding how to be safe and the responsibility of using firearms at an early age. I didn't start shooting until 11 and I kinda regret that dad didn't teach me it was a girl in our town.
If your that worried about it go out to the range with them

Given that Dad is a gun owner, it sounds like he is doing the responsible thing and teaching them safe and proper handling of firearms. Proper training reduces accidents.

what about this scares you? do you think they are going to grow up and be serial killers? or are you concerned for their safety? My brother and I both go shooting with our father and we are very safe, so im sure that if your husband is a licensed gun owner that he knows how to be safe while using a firearm and while supervising your children, but if you do not feel comfortable ask your husband to wait a few years, out of respect for you

All kids are interested in war at some point. Especially boys. Usually just a phase. Let them read about it, learn to shoot, etc. They'll get their fill and move on to other stuff.
8 year olds are evil little monkeys but it doesn't last...

crown, the worst thing you could do here is try to limit their exposure at this point. If you do, they will only become more curious and want to learn more about guns. (experience speaking). Your husband sounds like a responsible firearm owner--talk it over with him and make sure he understands your concern.
Remember, this interest is part of a male's survivor/hunter instincts.

Congratulations, you are raising a fine pair of US soldiers who will likely both be killed in Iraq as the war will still be going on when they reach draft elegibility. (Provided of course they don't get gunned down in street gang wars while in their teens first).
And btw, why did you marry an NRA guy if you didn't think guns were gods gift to man?
