Humble yourself, not humble yourself to the animal.
John k - If reading the Bible makes you an atheist, it's only in your lack of understanding.

God gave man the ability to reason, which is above the animals. I think that God meant more that we should humble ourselves to Him, and not think of ourselves as equal to God. The idea of humility essentially is to not brag about how you're so much better than someone else, or not to think you're better because you've got more stuff. Just my interpretation.

He doesn't ask us to humble ourselves to animals. We are to humble ourselves to him among men. James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Not really. Being humble is having a respect for the world that God created, including all other plants, animals, etc.

We are special, we are His special creation, made in His image. See Genesis 1 in the Bible. He created us different, we can think and reason, we have a soul and a spirit. We are different. God wants us to be humble before HIM and realize our total depravity. He instructs us to be kind to animals. We are NOT animals.

We are created in the image of the Most high God. That is what makes us special. Just as God is humble enough to forgive us, so should we be humble.

No, it actually doesn’t. Where much is given, much is required. God has bestowed upon us many gifts just by being here on Earth, not the least of which is our agency to choose right from wrong. He placed us over the animals, who do not have the ability to make such choices. Our humility comes in choosing to follow as he commands…regardless of our superiority on this earth.
The animals, the trees, even the dirt and water follow as He commands…can we?

Special doesn't necessarily imply superiority. We are obviously different to animals, we have a higher consciousness. Our needs should be humble otherwise we loose ourselves, each other and 'God'. It certainly is a modern day phenomenon.
