I've heard people eating dandelions, are they the same species/type as grow in your yard?

Yes, just make SURE that you haven't been using pesticides on them and only pick the newest, smallest leaves (the bigger they get, them more bitter). Wash them really well - just like you would with anything else.

You can also grow nasturtiums and pansies to use in salads as well.

You can eat them as long as they haven't been treated with peticides. When I was young,me and my grandmother used to go pick dandelion greens from a school yard that we lived next to. Just make sure you clean good and pull out the flower stem first. Also cut off the bottom root,it is real bitter. She also used to make dandelion wine, wish I had that recipe.

You can eat the dandelions that grow in your yard, make sure you wash them though. Also, the leaves from a plant that hasn't flowered yet taste the best.

Yes dandelions are edible and great in salads. Just make sure you pick them in an area free from toxic weed killers and wash thoruoughly in cold water before eating.. The flowers can be made into wine and the leaves eaten either raw in a salad or cooked like spinach.

I never ate the entire weed raw. However, growing up, we would go to an open field, and pick hundreds of dandelions. My Daddy would make homemade dandelion wine, and that was so good!!

Are they the same species? Yes.

Can you eat them? I think that would depend on how you take care of your lawn. Anything that you dump onto your lawn is going to end up on the *inside* of the plants eventually, too, just like all the pollutants in the air eventually end up inside your body. Don't rely on washing to get rid of ten years' worth of Weed'n'Feed.

i don't think so. the dandelions they eat are grown on a farm and don't have weed killer on them. i think they are different then the ones in your yard.

Providing they are properly washed YES, use in salads. Leaves are also eaten as a diuretic.
