I'll add my opinion here. First things first, we must recommit ourselves to education and revamping the educational system for our children, who are our future and our only hope for having any sort of future with all the fighting and hatred in this world.

I would change the level of apathy and the entitlement mentality.
People don't even want to bother with voting. They just want to sit there and have the government solve all their problems for them, while they whine about how the government could be doing it better.
I wish everyone would educate themselves about the issues and candidates, and be willing to take action to support their beliefs (regardless of their opinions).
How would I change it? First of all, I would make voting day a national holiday so no one would have to work, so there would be no excuse for people not to vote. I would also streamline voter registration somehow to keep it simple. I would also make certain everyone who wanted to vote via absentee was counted, and that it was legitimate so people could not vote by absentee and then show up at the polling place. One person, one vote.

Ban all lobbiests from being within 100 miles of Washinton DC.
Authorize a 24/7/365 day hunting season on lobbists in that area.
Actually I had a different idea on how to improve the USA. But had to come up with a new one because I don't know how to accomplish it. Abolish ALL political parties.

I definately think that either all citizens should be insured at low or no cost, or else the medical profession and drug companies need to lower prices.
I also see the need to break away from our dependency on oil and be able to provide our own alternative fuel. There's so many options, but not much is going into research and promotion of these alternatives, even though they are out there.

The Welfare Programs. I would really check into the person who is applying for welfare. If they say they only have 1 car check DMV, check for insurance. People on section 8 don't care about the house they live in, they wreck the house then the owner has to pay to fix it. the owner can't go after the tennents for the repairs because their on welfare. check for AKA's. Ive seen people with 4 and 5 foodstamp cards in their wallets and useing them.Ive seen the same marker plate on 3 cars, Ive seen people cash personal checks, using a drivers license that has nothing written on the back atall.CHECK!!!

I would have to say....we need to get back to our constitution....for example....keep religion and government seperate....should we be passing laws based solely on religion....like gay marriage....I am not gay but what do I care if two people want to get married....the only reason they can't is because the government is taking religion into the legislation chambers...i know that personal values come from ones religion but and certain things need to be there but however not at the expense of a groups freedom....I agree with the fact that things like the 10 commandmends should not be displayed in government buildings....this is a "melting pot" nation.....many religions and ethnic backgrounds....we need to be more aware of this and not make laws based soley on religious beliefs....

I'd raise the roadways' speed limits to where they ought to be.
I'm afraid I wouldn't go about changing that as it's a hopeless task what with the greenies' and other worriers' complete control of the transportation conversation. Complete control, that is, until the next highway spending bill goes before Congress!

The electoral college and the disproportionate power of small states in the House and Senate. That would require changing the constitution, so I'd have a lot of traveling and cross-country convincing to do. While I'm at it, I'd try to increase voter turnout...

If I could change one thing, I think I'd change the government from a representative democracy to a meritocracy. That would probably be the single thing that would make the biggest positive change.
As for how I'd go about changing it, I'm not so sure.
