You could use Sony SoundForge or Audacity (free) but not all songs can have vocals removed. These programs depend on the stereo balancing of the song and assume that the vocal channel is equal in both the left channel and the right channel while the instruments are not. If the vocal channel isn't balanced this way, the next best technique is to use the graphic EQ to try to filter out the vocal band around 8k-10k.

A very basic and free program you may wanna play around with is Vocal Remover from Analog-X.

If you have windows XP, check to see if you have Windows Movie Maker. This should allow you to take out lyrics, but not 100% certain, since i mostly just used it for video.
