not all beer drinkers are fat at all, but your rationale is with the "beer belly". Ethanol and other sugars found in beer are processed by the liver into stored energy, and fats are the way the body stores energy. The reason it usually deposits around the abdomen is a safety feature we were born with, the body protects and supplies the critical areas of the body first, meaning the impact absorbing, insulating fuel deposits above our critical organs where it can be retransformed into usuable fuel for our heart, lungs, and brains.

Do you mean the big round belly- remind you of a mix between an 8 month pregnant woman and Santa?
It's called ascites. When alcohol is broken down, over time it can damage the liver. The liver also makes proteins in the body that can also affect where fluid is in your body. When the liver is damaged, it doesn't make the proteins like it should. The belly gets swollen (like Santa or a pregnant woman).
Then of course there is the fact alcoholics are not the most healthy of folks- drinking will come before eating healthy. So you've got empty calories and carbs from the alcohol, plus whatever junk food is cheap and easily available. When was the last time you saw an alcoholic on the treadmill at the gym- they also tend to lead sedatary lifestyles.

Beer is very high in calories, and is often associated with activities that are not very physical, such as sitting on the couch and watching sporting events. Thus, beer drinkers are increasing their caloric intake but also may have less exercise than other people.

Those people are usually couch potatoes and don't move much. As a result, all the calories in beer gets converted into fat and stored in their bodies, making them morbidly obese.

beer is pure calories, having a 6 pack, is like a full course dinner calorie wise, so imagine drinking that on top of regular meals. it has yeast, and its very productive at gaining weight, especially if people have sedentery life style, ex. watching tv

I'm not. I guess what the other responses meant are true, If you're lazy and a sofa tater, it's basically like smoking dope or sitting around drinking milkshakes, if you don't burn calories your fat cells start swelling after 2 days and you get fatter.

beer has empty calories.
I will disagree that beer drinkers are inactive. I love beer, but I also remain active. Busy all the time, and I exercise by swimming. Please don't generalize.
