Most people in New York don't own their own cars since there's so little space for parking. As a result, there's a higher demand for car rental. And you get the fundamentals of supply and demand, when there's more demand, you can raise the prices.

When you think of the cost of parking in a garage alone, its easy to understnad. Also, there are various discounts avalable so its really not that bad. The highest rates are on weekends, cheaper if rented during the week.
