my dog always barks at the door when anyone comes over and tends to go for them, so i shut him away when im expecting anyone, but today i popped out and didnt get back before the postman came and returned home to find my dog with his nose jammed in the letterbox! he doesnt seem to be in too much pain but i want to get to my mail- any ideas?

keep him there learn him a lesson,if you let him get off lightly he will never learn keep him there for as long as possible to learn him,when he as been there a while he will start to lose weight and he will release him self then

I'm assuming your dog is still in this position. Are you able to get inside the house? I would suggest removing the letterbox from the house/door and getting the dog to the vet to have them remove it from the dog. You don't want to hurt your dog trying to get him out. If you can't remove the box, call your vet for suggestions. They can tell you what is safe to use.

Try to seal the box, and sometimes its good that ur dog barks as soon as he see's a person, he's a good watch dog...
What if there was a burgular? he would be the one for the job.

Get a wall mounted mailbox.
