Read all about it at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, OCD, is an anxiety disorder and is characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Repetitive behaviors such as handwashing, counting, checking, or cleaning are often performed with the hope of preventing obsessive thoughts or making them go away. Performing these so-called "rituals," however, provides only temporary relief, and not performing them markedly increases anxiety

Obsessive compulsive disorder is usually passed genetically.
It results in people who are fearful and given to addictions.
There are entire books written on this subject.

I, too, have this concern. In my little international, no person might have long fingernails. Fingernails would not be allowed to come again to the top of your hands. same element applies to toenails. shrink them, tear them, bite them, bite them, record them, yet do exactly away with them. and individuals's diets might get replaced so as that the fingernails might proceed to be on the thin section. I honestly can not stand to ascertain thick fingernails or toenails. it somewhat is quite repulsive to me. and because it somewhat is my little international, besides the certainty that it has no longer something to do with OCD, at age 30-All persons may well be sterilized. in case you had infants previously you have been 30, then good, in case you planned to attend...Too undesirable. so as that any undesirable infants out right here might have of venture of being observed. howdy, this is in basic terms my little international. And it may well be a capital offense to harm an animal and if it have been a kinfolk animal which contain a puppy, the guy might get the dying penalty. howdy, it somewhat is my Utopia.

The TV show Monk, is a good example. Many people have it to a lesser degree. It is often shown in washing the hands to much, straightening things that are a little askew, counting everything, etc.

My husband has it & it drives me nuts, he has all of these rituals he has to go through in the morning before he even has his orange juice.
He has to straighten the place mat just so, then he has to lay a paper napkin at a certain angle to the right of the placemat then he has to rinse a juice glass 3 times & shake the water out 3 times on & on & on.........he needs medication or I NEED to be drugged.

How bad they are can vary along with the type you have. My brother when he was a kid always felt the need to wash his hands and wouldn't touch any door knobs because he was afraid of getting germs. Sometimes I count over and over in my head.

To a certain degree, we all have it. We all have things we do that really make no sense. When it really starts affecting your life, you can't live a normal day, you need to seek help and possibly medication.

I have it. I'm always finding myself arrange my closet by color and size. And I also have to fix the bedsheets over and over again until I feel that it's PERFECT. There's more, but I don't feel like writing them all down.
