Not only movies, but books and images as well. As a child, I had a book with a photo of a tornado. I would be compelled to look at it, then have trouble sleeping afterward.
Now my daughter is eight and has the same issues when she watches something even the least bit scary on television or reads a book with threatening concepts. Right now she is having trouble with Treasure Island. She got through the first scary part, now has encountered the second and does not want to continue reading it.
The human imagination is what separates us from lower animals. Read some Carl Jung to see what he thinks about archetypes and why they are constantly re-created in fictional accounts.

It's all in the build up the suspense and anticipation that something is going to happen. Like Jaws with that music

sorry but in the year 2006 most scrary moves are true life. look at the news all those crazy people living next door and you have no idea!!

the credit goes to ppl who make the movies,they make u think everything is real.so even after u see the movie u start to think what if this really happens!!!this simple question is what makes us believe these things.

because you let your mind wonder the fear into your reality world. If you just look at it as it is "a movie" the fear won't penatrate. "ITS ONLY A MOVIE."
