Did anyone see that story on the news where a lady who had teached sunday school for almost 50 years was fired because of a verse in the bible? So she was fired for being a woman, I guess Christians are becoming like muslims and soon the women will wear burkas too.

Was this lady being paid? I have never heard of anyone getting fired from teaching Sunday school. What verse did they use? Women are not oppressed in Christianity. In fact I think women are cherished. I have always been taught that God created a woman to complete a man. Men and women are very different and when you put the two together they balance each other. God doesn't view women as being less of an importance than men nor does the Bible. It was probably another one of those cases where people are taking things to the extreme and going over and above what the Bible instructs us to do.

i agree with breggwied but i also fel that u should post us a link.
i really feel sad about that, but it happens all the time. woman when ask for maternity leaves are fired or one may see that a male colleague will always be favoured and promoted even when a deserving female candidate is present.

i'm sorry but i have to give someone an answer here.

williamzo- we arent so ignorant that u will post us that site. we know that christianity consideres Eve to be the reason for fall of mankind. how many women have given sermons in past even during the times of Jesus. u know very well that peter, mark, judas and matthew are mentioned more often in the bible than virgin mother mary herself. and u also know that the church condemns women since the beginning to give sermons.

tell me that i'm lying about joan of arc being burnt alive as a heretic just because she was a challenge.

and even if the bible tells u, most christian men today treat women only like an object of sexual gratification. the world is not blind, u may be. take a look around u and see what u are living with.

It is such a sad and unfortunate story. She actually taught for *over* 50 years. That means there were probably a lot of former students in the congregation. I hope they all left with her.

But in other churches, they are talking about amending the trinity from "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" to something more gender-neutral, they are making women bishops, they are respectful to both genders. I don't think you can generalize about all Christians that way.

She was asked to step down, but she wasn't fired. It was not a paid position. It is unfortunate that this congregation decided to change their minds.

If you understood anything about Christianity and Islam, you would know there is a vast difference. It's too bad this woman isn't teaching Sunday School anymore. But try visiting a Muslum country sometime. I just hope nobody throws battery acid in your face or burns you because you are considered to be a man's property.

I am a Christian woman and I have never felt anything but respected and cherished by Christian men.

I am not aware of the news story you are talking about, could you post a link?

Some Christian denominations are stricter (more legalistic) than others. But if you go back to the bible, being a Christian isn't about following a set of rules and looking like you fit in... that is empty religion. Being a Christian is about having a real, open, vital, and honest relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything else is just details.

Christianity has always oppressed women - why do you think they teach that god is a man and that he sent a man, with twelve male apostles, to save the world? Why do you think the fall is blamed on Eve?

Christianity is about justifying a patriarchal hierarchy.

Well...the government has lost it's religion...and she 'taught' the kids...not 'teached'!!
What verse did she use?? She couldn't have been fired just because of a verse...or because she was a woman!! Christianity does not oppress women...the men and women sit together in churches!!

Honey, if that was true, there would have been a lawsuit. If I worked anywhere for 50 years I think I would happy to leave, doesn't matter where I worked.
