Pantene is one of my favorites, use the dry/damaged hair formula. The most imporntant thing I can tell you to do is to never leave your hair untreated! this means to ALWAYS condition your hair after shampooing. You can use olive oil, coconut oil, mayonnaise, or any hydrating conditioner. Try putting one of the first 3 in your hair at night and wrapping a towel around your head and sleeping with the product on. Wash it out in the morning and then condition. This isn't going to solve your dry hair overnight but if you keep it up it will definitly improve the texture of your hair. As for oils, I know that dollar stores carry hair oil-one of the best is carrot oil. It is very cheap and works very well.

Dry hair?
Try to avoid hot water when you bath.
I never heard about using oil, but have you heard about Balsam? Pantene have balsam and Elvital(L'oreal) also have balsam.
When after bath, dont use any hairdry or something warm.

Because you have not write more detail about your hair, then I will try to guess about the length of your hair: start with short hair and every second month cut a little of your hair. let new hair grow, which you maybe can avoid dry/old hair. Try to eat vitamin and mostly fish. As I know from my parent, that fish is good for hair.

I hope some of my information can help you. Good luck with your hair!

I use a treatment called 'Ojon',it is palm nut oil.I get it from www.qvcuk.com You need to put in ojon in the search box, they do a whole of range from shampoos to shine sprays.I found I noticed the difference after a week. You put a small amount of the oil in your hand and melt it,the heat of your hands will do this, then massage it through your hair, leave it on as long as you can,I put it on at night and use a shower cap and sleep with it on.It cost around £20 but if you use it once a week it lasts around six months.
Olive oil is also good so I have heard but have never tried it myself ,not now that I have found Ojon!

DON'T use cooking oil!

Most brand name shampoos damage the hair to be honest, head and shoulders being one of the worst-banned in some countries!

Try coconut oil. If you can't afford it, you can make your own by crushing the coconut flesh to extract the oil.
Try searching the net for natural sources to help your dry hair. You can't go wrong with nature in that respect!

All the best.

have you tried vo5 moisture soak shampoo and conditioner? or sunsilk they have ranges for all hair types and a leave in conditioner, as my hair is dry because i colour mine alot and i find that both these work well for me. also do not use a hairdryer or strightners as these will dry out your hair more. not sure about cooking oil as i think that would just make your hair extremely greasy

i wouldn't personally use cooking oil in my hair, i know it sounds disgusting but apparently if you don't wash your hair for a month all the natural oils start to come back to your hair.

the very best solution for dry hair I have found is Brylcream - yea, the same one our dads & granddads used way back. Rub it in at night (best to use a shower cap to protect your pillowcase) and wash out in the morning.

Olive oil is wonderful for your hair - leave it on overnight and wash it in the morning to feel the difference. Trust me, it works!
