The well is 17 years old and till about 4 months the water was fine.Now only I observe this green layer covering the entire water surface. Is it harmful ? If so please iell me simple means to restore the water quality.

Water might have been contaminated with fungus or there may be secondary source inside from nearby pond or from any such source. If the depth is not much, it is better to pump out the entire water and then chlorinate. Before that, give a sample of water to a laboratory for testing and on the basis of the result and go accordingly as per the advise of analytical experts.

Add Bleaching (chlorine 500grms) powder in a bucket of water and mix in the well water(in the night time only) do not use it for 24 hrs. do this again after 1 week. and again 10 days after the second time. and finally every month for 4 months.
U can get the pure water.
