Does prayer work? Hundreds of millions prayed for God to stop Hitler, but God did nothing and 30 million+ died. Either God is heartless, powerless, both, or does not exist at all.

Prayer is defined by dictionary.com as "An act of communion with God, a god, or another object of worship, such as in devotion, confession, praise, or thanksgiving"
Prayer is communication with God. If you believed God was your creator, you would want to communicate with Him.
So, what would YOU say to Him????
I try to treat Him with awe and respect. He has given me a free will to do what I want. If I choose not to love Him, that is my choice. A true tyrant would not give me that choice. I doubt God sees prayer as "nagging" because He tells us to petition Him in prayer. A true tyrant would not encourage, listen to, and then answer my petitioning.
So what should I say to God? Someone above wrote about their child that they "get a kick from his vocalizing of love and respect for me." So why does it bother you so much if God feels the same way? If I love God and want to vocalize my love and respect for Him, why should that bother you?
God does not demand that we pray to Him in order to be saved, despite what you say. I'll say it again: God does not demand that we pray to him in order to be saved. There is no "minimum" amount of prayer specified in the Bible, and nobody prays all the time. He is not cracking a whip as you imply, demanding that we beg for things.
"Conceited" is an UNDULY high opinion of one's own self. If God created the universe, I think He is due respect for that. Obviously, you don't have any respect for that. "Tyrant" and "creep" are choice words.
I wonder if you looked at yourself if you would come up with some of the same criticisms. You have criticized and critiqued God; how much more conceited can you get than that? You called him arrogant, tyrant, conceited, coward, bully, and egotist. How much hubris and arrogance does that show?

I have to agree. The role model that is shown by any Gods that are currently worshipped, are not ones I could willingly submit to, unless I were to enjoy being a bullied subserviant.
I am a parent and I do not think hypocrisy is a way to raise children. "Do as I say, not as I do" is a provable error of upbringing.
Were I to demand my Son pay constant and unerring homage to me for bringing him into the world and insist, on pain of death, that he do exactly as I say every time without question or individual thought or definition, not only would I be a terrible father, I would have created a robot, not a person who can and should, make mistakes so as to learn and grow from them.
I DO, however, get a kick from his vocalising of love and respect for me. I do not insist on it though, as his personal decision to love me without being forced to in any way, shows me I am doing something right in the way of being a good and worthy father.
In my view, should I insist on his love, it would negate the essence of the love itself.
Great question.

and why not?
praying is not begging per se, although most atheist (and i assume that you are one) perceive that. it is also not something we do to appease the ego of a tyrant.
we pray to a God or a Being because we attest that there is something or someone from up there that is responsible for the creation of the earth, and also the fact that not everything we work on is not 100% out of our brute strength or intellect. those who believe in a God or an intellectual being acknowledge that there is something else or someone else in control of things that man cannot.

I believe God appreciates any honest effort to communicate with him. You must understand that any question, or prayer, or "beg" is always a response to his constant call to us to bring us into eternal life with him. We praise great sports figures, great actors, great singers, etc. Why wouldn't we praise the supreme being who created us and gave us all those gifts in the first place?

Do you realize that every time you wish for something, whether it is a hamburger or a better job, or someone to care about you, that you are in essence 'praying'? You don't have to say fancy words or amen's or make a lot of noise to pray, praying is wanting and wishing for something. So even YOU pray.

I agree. It doesn't make sense. Either they are asking God to change his "perfect plan", or they are asking him to do what he would have done anyways. I would think either would be offensive to such a being.
