It is scary for those who don't believe and he did die to save the world. If he didn't then all of us are condemned and we would have to be still reliant on animal sacrifices and such as the Old Testament standard or on Jewish customs, still awaiting for a Savior or Messiah. It is really scary for those who go against a loving savior and the Holy Spirit. If millions believe in Jesus how can it be wrong. The evangelism is finally reaching the entire world through missionaries, radio and tv. Now a pure form of Christianity is reaching China and other parts of the world where Buddhism has a stronghold.

If you are questioning the reality of Christ then, He did die to save us. The scary thing is..... that you are asking this question. I mean scary for you to question that Jesus Our Saviour died on the cross. If he didn't die to save us from hell, then what's the point of life? Now you have the chance to live for eternity.
I don't know how you stand spiritually, I can only advise you to sincerely ask Jesus Christ into your life and everything you want to know about God will eventually be revealed to you as you grow in the Christian Faith. Read the Gospels and preferably some of Pauls letters especially the letter to the Ephesians. Satan will appear as an angel of light to confuse you, thinking that he will destroy your relationship with God, don't be taken in by this.
If you want chapters and verses then the first thing to do is read Genisis very carefully and read Christian Literature, i.e. Life-How did it get here. But to be honest , all your answers are in the Bible.
You want a quote from the Bible, then try John 3 v16, Isaiah 43 V 1-3. The Sermon on the Mount, Mathew chapters 5 - 8.
Turning your life over to Christ will take courage, as an ex-soldier, I can truly identify with this. let's put it this way, if there was no God, I wouldn't be here today answering your Question, I wouldn't be alive, and that's the truth. Please identify the difference between satans manipulation, and the Truth in God. I could give you many scriptual references to your question, but the real step is finding Christ and asking him into your life. There will be no doubt about it, if you're sincere, the Holy Spirit will reveal everything to you. He loves you and wants to save you from hell and an eternity without God.
If it's guidance you need then contact you're nearest TRUE Christian Church or Christians who will explain anything you need to know.

Scary for who.... Jesus or us?
The night before Christ was crucified he was filled with distress anguishing over what he knew would happen. While He was and is God he was also by His own choice filled with human frailty. He was in a sense, scared beyond anything you or I could imagine at the thought of what he was about to endure, not only on the cross but for eternity for our sake.
However, he also knew that it was the Father's will for him to bear this and resigned Himself to accomplishing what he knew had to be done.
What I think is scary, since you did open this as an opinion question, is that seemingly intelligent people can see the work of God and choose to ignore it and Him simply because their pride can not allow them to confess that they were created and somehow evolved on their own into what we call man kind. Further that through their denial, they will spend an eternity separated from God in torment. That scares me and I prayer for each and every one.

It would be more scary if he did. That would mean that the Bible, with all of its religious intolerance and mysogeny towards women is true, and that we have no free will, and that God is jealous and vengeful, and we're in for 1000 years of holy war, followed by everyone who is not christian being thrown into a lake of fire for not worshipping and praising a being who claims he loves us but destroys entire cities, innocent children, and once the entire human race to prove how great he is.

The fact that he did die and suffer for us, those of us who are believers will be saved from destruction in the end. Those of us who will be forgiven have received a gift (of his death).
So, him doing that is not a scary thing.
Of course, if he did and you don't believe, then yes, it may be scary when you die. I'm sorry but there is still time.
On second thought, if he is who we say he is, and you don't believe, then your life right now is scarier than need be.

What a great question.
Once a few years ago, I was contemplating a huge no no. I knew if I went through with it, I would have to decide to disregard God's will for my life.
As I was driving along thinking it over, I remembered what Peter said, "Lord, who else could we turn to. You have the words of life."
After a few tears and regret for even considering that sin, I realized how grateful I was that Jesus did what He did.
As you say, imagine that He hadn't. Whose spirit would be our advisor and comforter? Whose sacrifice would have been worthy to God?
Thank you for the reminder of how awesomely merciful and gracious God is.

Double-edged sword it is.
Two thieves bearing crosses identifying them as Jesus and the crowd unaware of the presence of more than one Jesus until the crosses are raised at Golgotha, and by then the hours of darkness covered the Land, indicating to the Jews of Jerusalem that the Sabbath was on them and their bretheren were being crucified, and then all Hell broke loose and they begged Pilate to take them down, and a while ago they were clamouring for the blodd of Jesus, not knowing that Pilate had two Kings for the murderers of innocent people, and now Pilate had them set up for breach of the Sabbath and crucifixion for themselves, but Pilate did not want to have a mass crucifixion like Monty Python suggests in Life of Brian so he settled for the curse on the Land and the War on Terrorism two thousand years later.
So, when Britain say they foiled a plot to blow up planes headed for USA they must know by now that it is the Planning of Allah, like in the days of Pharaoh with the plagues, only this is the plague of Terrorism, and to foil a plot is to discover another plague from Allah.
Why was Lebanon bombed to get rid of Allah, Hezbollah?
If you think you are confused about Jesus, then the Muslims should not be, for deep down they know that Jesus is not what you think of Jesus though they may play up to your tricks.
They Know Allah is for real and that everything is given its own time.
From Allah we came and to Him is our return.
Jesus died to curse the people to whom Christ was sent and who rejected him, but the Christ was not crucified. Jesus was.
The two thieves were.
What's more scary; Jesus one or Jesus two?

Don't worry, it's not like it's the end of the world. Oh, wait. Nevermind.
Exousia Skotos once said, " Jesus was against religion, and was crucified for using the bible for his own purpose." I guess he was right. Now run along and spread the news.

I think that Jesus dying to save us would be more scary. I can understand if he was just a normal guy and just died and people wrote about it. That makes sense.
But God killing his son (who was him) temporarily to appease himself about us? Wow. That's one demented dude. It would be really scary if such a madman with that much power really existed.
