Concerning the sin, you can't compare'em. There is no big sin or small sin, or you can't say that this certain sin is worse than another.
So it's the same thing either if you masturbate or have premarital sex or commit genocide or lie.
But the consequences can by various. Once you sin, God doesn't choose what consequence to tie to that sin, the sin itself includes the consequences.
So if you have premarital sex you'll have to explain everything to your spouse, you might get a baby on the way, AIDS, and everything else.
Then, if you masturbate, it's been scientifically proved that by the time you'll be 25-30 you won't be able to ejaculate at all, so you won't be having any babies either make your wife feel pleasure.
Be wise

Nowhere in the bible does it condemn masturbation as a sin.
However, Jesus did say that to committing adultery in the mind is the same as committing adultery in the flesh.
So, this is one of the greatest grey areas for Christians. I have been told both sin and not sin. If you can masturbate without fantasising or visualising a sexual partner I don't see where the sin is. Perhaps someone else can explain it better than I.

Neither masturbation nor premarital sex are sins and I'm a Christian. Stop controling people's minds through fear!

Sexuality is a gift from God, meant for our pleasure, specifically between a man and a woman in a committed marriage relationship. Of course, any time God has something good for you, you can trust Satan to move in with a cheap copy....
No, there is no place in the Bible that forbid masturbation. Some people are just completely convinced that God just wants to spoil everyone's fun.....

To prove their point Christians had to go back as far as Onan somewhere in the Old Testament.
Today no one would subscribe to such narrow notions unless he/she is consciously/unconsciously masochistic.
The subject of premarital sex is more complex.

It is worse. The act of fornication is less objectivily dissordered than is self-gratification. Simple fornication, of all serious sexual sins (aka those that could cause you to go to Hell) is the least objectivily sinfull. See the Summa below for a ordered list.

Reading the bible, there is no sin in masturbation. Anyone who assumes to tell you otherwise, has not read their bible much.
However, it IS a sin to think impure thoughts whilst performing such an act, according to the bible again, so when you do it, you have to think of jesus until you orgasm.
