It is self-harm but different because of the different pay-offs, and different perception of society.

From an exterior aesthetic point of view cutting looks worse.

From an interior point of view (in the lungs) smoking looks worse.

Which is worse? I don't know.

Define harm - - - not all smoking is tobacco - - - many herbs of all sorts have been smoked for milenium for health purposes. Cutting is a manifestation of self loathing. There is a vast difference between the reasons for smoking and the reasons for cutting.
