The pendulum on its own has no power. It is an indicator of very small muscle movements in the hand. I have seen it used for dowsing but I havent been able to make it work myself (I can use L rods but havent had any success with a twig).
The very scary thing about the pendulum is that people claim to be able to use it over a map to locate water and other things on the ground. I have seen it done but I feel very dubious of it.
A more understandable use is to ask questions of the body about whether foods and other substances are good or not. Here you have a sample of the food and you use your other hand to interfere with the 'radiation' of the substance.
I have to say that I am very skeptical (or maybe critical would be better) but only because if I see something work I want to know why! There is an awful lot of rubbish published about pendulums and dowsing, so one needs to be very selective. Use it yourself (a pendulum is very easy to make and there is no need to pay loads for a 'good' one ... as I say, it is only an indicator) and find out what works for you.
Here are some selected references that seem to avoid being too 'mystical':

Edit: As for whether or not it conforms with Christian principles, I am aware that 'divination and magic' is frowned upon but I believe that refers to attempts to foretell the future and the use of 'magic' to influence events. That kind of 'knowledge' is proscribed because much of it is based on false premises but the use of a pendulum is not, in itself, unGodly if it is used to help in indicating powers which we already have but are too weak to detect otherwise. Many animals can sense hidden water, for example, and there is no reason why humans cannot do this too - it's just that the sense is too weak for most of us to detect. That sort of thing is a God-given power and so does not go against religion.

Hello Sandy,
Sandy for a start i think there are lots of people using New age practise to make BIG MONEY. These people also make the people who are doing it for all the right reasons and motivation look bad. And there are most defiantly people taking part in occult practises because they want to do other people good. How ever i don't think the power that the genuine people are tapping into is natural or good, in fact i think they are being duped.
When you become involved in occult practise you are opening a door to a place you don't know or understand. Its not a matter of if you believe in the power of the pendulum. The question should be. If a stranger in the street gave you a sweet would you eat it?

A pendulum can be made of anything, even a pencil with a needle and thread . What I know about them is that they work on gravitational pull and if used on the human body they work on the energy field. They actually do work, based on the askers intention, even some medical fields use them, although science has not proven their acuracy or inacuracy. In each case that one has been used on me it was accurate. When I was young, it was a game, and mom used one to show us how many children we would have. We assumed I would have four children but my third child when it came to him it went nuts. It was just uncleanr, first two girls, then a boy, boy, pause boy. We were confused, but sure enough I had twins and ended up with five children
They are just simple tools to ask yes or no questions, or questions of either one or the other (such as boy or girl, dry or wet, sick or healthy). They work with this line of questioning, and the results are pretty fast (the answer)

I assume you are referring to dowsing?
There is no actual power in the object itself, it is simply a weight on a chain or string. However, the pendulum responds to incredibly subtle stimuli such as slight twitches of the hand that holds it. It is primarily a tool to aid one in visualising, through motion, the natural external effects present that also act upon us, such as the motion of underground water, creating a small static charge that can be almost impossible to perceive without equiptment. Another use is to aid contact with one's subconscious, for example, if you've placed your car keys somewhere but cannot consciously remember where, dowsing can simply be used to successfully find them again, as although the conscious memory of where you put the keys may have gone, the subconscious remembers, so can be used to find the lost property via the use of a medium such as a pendulum, or even rods.
There's no magic involved.

i'm doubtful on whether you like equality or privilege. Privilege is the different of equality, even while it rather is on your choose. What if men complained via fact women human beings did no longer open doors for them? What if men griped via fact women human beings did no longer enable the lads pass first? Do you no longer see that it rather is inconsistent to anticipate men to be chivalrous gents who cope with women those with particular courtesy, at the same time as on a similar time annoying equivalent rights with men? it rather is like sharing an apple with somebody, and annoying that he help you have 2 bites for each of his. so which you have been a soldier, huh? i've got heard what most of the female troops did while the capturing began in Iraq. they got here across a male chum, used him to get pregnant, and then used the toddler as a reason for paying for a medical discharge and being despatched abode. That left the US forces in Iraq understrength, which made it impossible to behaviour the occupation effectively. possibly you have been a greater clever soldier than most of the ladies human beings in uniform, however the information will make defense force commanders hesitate to apply woman troops interior the destiny. "being pregnant to circumvent wrestle" would desire to be against the regulation under the UCMJ, on a par with "cowardice interior the face of the enemy."

I use anything and I teach everyone their powers. I'm a diviner, I find underground pipes and water for farmers. You can use a pair of coat hangers or two blades of water grass. I can find anything that is underground, including pottery! I have never failed to teach all that want to learn, even those who are sceptical. I can even teach people to detect faults in the human body. Don't ask me how, magnetism?

A pendulum has no power, it is a speed regulation device, it has energy both potential and kinetic when swinging.
As for Dr Randall's peculiar answer, chan he/she explain where the power in my V6 Ford came from, not god thats for sure, unless god works in my ford dealer, and it was not given either i had to pay for it.

Although I'm not sure if its sub conscious movements that work the pendulum or not, my boyfriend believes in them over any device for contacting spirits etc. His ex was heavily into spiritualism and taught him everything he knows. He has told me (I've yet to see it myself) that he cant explain the movements for the pendulum, and that he's seen things that cant be explained. Who knows? I'm intrigued to see one in action though.

Pendulums are measuring devices that use energy. Are you looking to use a pendie for divination purposes? You can, but it usually follows your own intentions, so it takes some time and practice to work with one.
