I got married in Phuket, Thailand. I'll agree that that's a wonderful place. Romance can be found, but you would want to stick to more secluded places (Amanpuri might be good - never been there - but very expensive). I hear J.W. Marriott is good. Banyan Tree very expensive but I hear also good and expensive.
Maldives is one of the most romantic places on the planet! But ONLY romance. And water sport. Island size range from small to REALLY small to OH MY GOD! small. Nothing to do but take in the beautiful sunsets, swim and snorkel, and have sex. But I wouldn't stay longer than a week to 10 days.
Finally, I hear good things about Sandals too. But never been there.
