Per rectum - especially if there is a danger of the thermometer being broken in the mouth. Some countries do this routinely e.g. France. So if a French doctor wants to take your temperature - turn around and brace yourself!

the best is to take temprature from the MOUTH by placing it under tongue for a minute.
but if there r contraindications for mouth then u can take the temperature by placing thermameter in ARMPIT and ANAL CANAL for example when the patient is in coma or the patient is expiercing severe rigors n cant hold the thermameter in mouth properly.
remember the temparature of the MOUTH is exactly represent the core body temperature i.e 98.6 farenheit but temp. of armpit is 1 degree farenheit less n rectal temp is 1 degree greater than core body temp. so u hav to add one or subtract one degree respectively.

regular thermometers are used commonly in the armpit, and some are used under the tongue. in children, they usually put it in the butt hole. but through the technology today, we can also detect the body temperature using special thermometer which is placed in the ear.

You can take from the ear, but dont use thermometer. There are other instruments that can be use for the ear. Beneath the tongue is one source of body temperature.

Most modern thermometers (particularly those used by Nurses in Hospital) now seem to 'stick in the ear'.

In yhe Hospital I work in we also take a constant internal temp by going through the nose and down the throat, (these people are sedated and on a breathing machine), and it is just as accurate as the rectum if not more so.
