Hi,
Innova Evo is by far the BEST food on the market for cats. It is the ONLY grain free, high protein food that uses ONLY fresh, whole human grade ingredients.
Chicken Soup is good but I would never trust the manufacuturer. Chicken... is made by Diamond which recently had a huge recall on food for contaminated products. Chicken... is definitely their higher end line but I personally would trust the company.
The good thing about Natura (makers of Innova) is they stand as one of the most consistent and strict manufacturers of pet foods. They are one of the only few companies that have been certified to have facilities that are good enough to produce organic food. That means, any product you get from them is chemical free and you don't have to worry about what is going in the food besides the listed ingredients.
Another good thing about the Natura Company is that they are one of the only companies that will not produce a bag of food until it is order. So, when my distributor orders from the company, they produce the food, through it on a truck and it arrives at her warehouse. This means fresh food that does not sit on the shelf for months.
The ONLY thing about Innova Evo is that it is very high in protein. I had switched my cat to this when it first came out and he got really smelly. The ONLY reason I switched him back to the regular Innova was because I was in an apartment and I respect other tenents. He is doing superb on the regular Innova though and I would NEVER feed another brand.
I would strongly urge that you go with Innova, either the regular or the Evo. It just can't be beat.
Oh, and on a side note, just as another poster mentioned, be very wary of Vet advice on nutrition as they receive little nutrition training and that which they do receive is funded by Science Diet so of course their opinion is bias.
I gave a thumbs up to the other answers that you should consider.
Good luck and congrats on making a good choice for your cats health.

Hi Matt...Life's Abundance, Wysong, Nature's Variety Prairie, Innova EVO, California Natural, Chicken Soup..., Wellness are considered the top leading brands. These premium foods avoid the inferior meat meals (like by-products), cheap grains (including corn, corn meal and soy), fillers, by-products, pesticides, preservatives and toxins found in most commercial pet food store brands. Royal Canin is the exception, but is the least of the premium brands by comparison, but competively more affordable.
I had to experiment with a few of the premium brands as some of these can be very rich for a cats sensitive digestive system causing yogurt-like bowel movements. So you will probably need to do the same, just remember when switching to a new diet it must be done very gradually over two weeks. Not doing so will upset the felines sensitive digestive system causing diarrhea or worse vomiting. For example you would mix the old crunchies with the new (1/4 new food to 3/4 old food ...then 1/2 to 1/2...then 3/4 new to 1/4 old...then 100% to new).
I'm including a weblink below that discusses healthy feline nutrition alternatives.

Good for you! Yes Chicken soup for the soul is a good brand. The best ones I have found also include Solid Gold, Innova, California Natural and Merrick. I have done a lot of research and those are the brands my pets get. BTW, most vets, when honest, admit they don't know much about the different dog foods. They usually recommend what ever brand some salesman has wined, dined and gifted them into recommending. Do reasearch on your own people, the info is out there.

Well, the more wet food the better. A lesser brand of wet food is okay, I would just find one that he likes with as few dyes and grains as possible. Also, meat by-products either not on the list or as far down as you can get. Fancy Feast Classics are grain free, and the Appetizers are decent. If you have a PetSmart, check out Authority or Simply Nourish. If cost isn't a factor, you can go with Blue Wilderness canned, Innova, EVO, or Wellness.

I feed my three indoor cats Innova lite. Indoor cats have a tendency to be over weight and since I started feeding my cats Innova, they have kept their weight at a healthy level. I have tried many different brands and I have found that Innova is the best out there. It is low in fat and carbs, but high in protein and vitamins important for a cats health. Check out their web site for more info. www.naturapet.com

I have not heard of any of those brands, except IAMS which is advertised as one of the best ones. I have also used James WellBeloved, which my cats love and is also premium brand.

You said you don't like Iams, but I use their hairball control formula, and I really like it. It helped my adopted cat gain weight, and he loves it.
