Not eating red meat and becoming a vegetarian are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

There are lots of foods that are not vegetarian that are also not red meat.

Like eggs, milk, fish, chicken, pork, turkey, duck, poultry of other kinds, shellfish, dairy products, etc.

I rarely eat red meat, but I do eat lots of things that are definitely not vegetarian.

Well red meats may not be good for you, but there are other healthier choices such as certain fish (salmon is good), chicken, or lean meats. Another problem is that people tend to eat too much of it, or choose ones with high amounts of fats/cholesterol, and that makes for a very unheathy diet.

A vegetarian diet can be good for you IF you are well-knowledged about how to eat correctly. It can be bad for you if you're not careful, because certain vitamins and minerals [although not impossible] are hard to get if you don't know what you're doing. Speak with a nutritionist before you decide to change your diet.
You can consider it, but maybe get opinions so you can find a diet which you can follow easily, but is healthy for you.

Vegetarianism does so many things...it's easier on your digestive system - it's easier on your colon - it's easier on your heart- and it's easier on your mind, your thinking. The thing about red meat is that it is difficult for the body to digest and much of the beef that is consumed, at least in America, is pumped with a variety of drugs and hormones to get the cow to grow quicker than it would eating it's natural vegetation - it's solely about money. What the cow eats, you eat. Not only that, animals become very stressed out due to the ways that these huge, conglomerate-like processing companies raise and slaughter these animals. As you eat, you take on the stress of the animal. Literally, we are what we eat.

I know your question is not about fast food, per se, but there is an excellent book by Eric Schlosser(sp) named Fast Food Nation. There are a few chapters re: meat processing and the in-humane ways that meat is processed. It will broaden your perspective on what's really going on out here. Peace...

For some vegetarianism is good. It works for some. It works for me! Some even go further and become a vegan! I see vegans as extremists! It's their choice though and their right! I tried veganism but found that too strict!
Vegetrianism was good for me cause when I was a meat eater meat was blocking my arteries and doctors couldn't figure out why I wasn't gaining weight.. One of my nicknames in in school was toothpick. I was often told "skinny skinny you can fit thru the crack of a kitchen door .. skinny ninny" they chanted that! but after I became vegetarian I gained weight. Most people have the reverse situation are fat from eating meat and lose when becoming vegetarians so some doctors say!

Well, although I do not think that eating red meat in moderation is a health risk, I do believe that you can get the same nutrition from non meat foods. A lot of it has to deal with eating particular foods together so that they combine in your stomach and create the effects meat would have, hence giving you the same benefits.

Since we are set up as both vegetable and meat eaters it only makes sense to have both in our diets.

Lean red meat is not harmful, its the fat that is, so you could realistically have red meat once a week and live to be 100.

Strict vegetarians cannot say that. They are prone to losing teeth at a young age due to calcuim defeciencies, bone loss, hair loss and many other *old people* problems.

The trick is to have the right amounts of all foods including some sweets in the diet in order for your body to work at its peak.

Fruits, nuts, seeds, tofu, legumes, meats, veg and dairy are what you need in order to maintain a healthy body and from that a healthy mind.

I think that people have been eating red meat forever and it has never been a problem - we used to do a lot of things before that are now "bad" for us.

Bottom line - believe what you want to believe - I personally love red meat!

A healthy vegetarian diet is good for health. It doesnt do any good to eat potato chips and refined sugar as a part of ANY diet. Vegetarians that eat right tend to get more of the nutrients human beings need from veggies, fruit and whole grains.

As lon as you include protein in your diet from nuts and legumes a vegan diet is not bad for you. You could try aq flexitarian diet that makes the diet focus on vegetables with a "side" of meat. Studies have shown that vegans and flexies have clearer arteries than their meat eating friends. I ont he other hand would have to go flex because I like meat too much

Red meat is needed for various minerals and iron etc. so long as you don't over do the quantity it's OK. A good Sunday roast once a week is fine
