I have 21 year old epileptic brother but he is not acting his age. Is normal for epileptic people to act like that?

No it's not. I've got a 16 year old son, he was diagnosed with Epilepsy when he was 12 years old. He's on medication ever since and (luckily) he never had a fit since and he's on medication and notbody who wouldn't know about it would ever guess.

if your brother is epileptic,
1. Keep him on Phenytion sodium or drugs that doctors may prescribe,
2. The drugs that subdue the electrical activitiy in the brain should be taken on a daily basis, to ovoid convulsions. ask ur neurologist.
3. Dont let them have any kind of mental stress. or trauma.
4. If there is a convulsion, occompanied by the grinding of teeth, try when the convulsions start, ease then down gently, remove all material that can cause harm, first of all u give them some rubber like peice in between thier teeth to oviod them biting thier own tounge. cause if that happens, they will be choked and death might accur. also see if there is some metallic item like a key, place it in thier palm, this will act as a electrical sink.
What ever happens, take this seriouly and let him have his drugs without any break, if the level falls in the blood, then he may have convulsions again.

I had epilepsy. I used to get fits almost twice a week. It was very abnormal. I used to feel low. I got infiriority complex. But one has to be pepped up. my parents helped me a lot to overcome it mentally(I thank them very much). I started reading inspirational books. Mentally, it was all gone soon. I still got fits. I took medicine for 4 years & i'm very fine now. No problem since.
Somethings to take care of an epileptic person--
Never let them swim alone.(Swimming in deep water is not recommended).
Never let them drive. It will be dangerous if they get a fit while driving.
They should take medicine regularly. Medicine should not be lapsed for even 1 dose.
Don't ever put them in a depressing or nervous situation. They should be kept happy always.
& 1 day they'll come of this problem. All the best!!

He is 21 ... most 21 year old are stuck between being a kid and growing up. Hard to tell ~ You are the only one here that knows him. I don't think epilepsy has a thing to do with it.. he is probably just going through some kind of phase

Let me preface this by saying that SOMEBODY NEEDS TO CONSULT HIS PHYSICIAN ABOUT ANY CONCERNS THAT YOU HAVE.
The answer really depends on if this is a new symptom for him. If it is, you should definitely have him evaluated by a physician right away. If the symptom started very recently, you should take him to an emergency department immediately.
As far as special attention, when he is actively having a siezure, you need to make sure that he isnt going to fall off of something (chair, etc) or hit something that is going to hurt him. NEVER ATTEMPT TO RESTRAIN SOMEBODY WHO IS ACTIVELY CONVULSING. Simply remove any dangerous items from the immediate vicinity or help him to the ground.
As far as long term supportive care, you really do need to discuss that with a doctor.

The one thing has nothing to do with the other. Medication should take care of the epilepsy. Only time will take care of the immaturity.
