I admired Ryan White. His courage and inspiration while dealing with AIDS at such a young age was touching. It's so sad he died before he ever got to be an adult. But he was more mature as a kid then most people I know.

When you say "this century" do you mean since 2000? Or do you mean since the year 1900? Since Mother Teresa died September 5th, 1997 you mean since 1900 correct?
*Shakes his head* I'm stumped- your simple written quesiton has so many variables with unique ramifications with cross cultural understands that I cannot answer this quesiton for the second half!
Congratulations- I have answered close to 2000 questions and you've stumped me!
Modifying my answer since you gave more information- I would have to vote Neil Bohr, the physicist. He's the first person to have even come close to figuring out how atoms work, and all technology is based on his discoverys. Every TV, Stereo, Radio, Computer, MRI, Medical invention, nuclear power, generators/alternators, every kind of engine, wood modification, concrete, asphalt, cell phones, food storage, pizza and food prepairation, microwave ovens- the list is almost endless- that his discovery has directly or indirectly influenced.

Nelson Mandela and Kofi Annan.
Nelson Mandela has struggled against adversity and despite his harsh treatment put aside thoughts of vengeance to try his best to create a truly inclusive society in his home country.
Kofi Annan has done more for the cause of international peace than any other man this century. He has in his own firm but quiet way lived up to the position of world's number one diplomat and is the first secretary-general to break out of being a pawn of the "great powers". He has spoken his mind, and ignored the narrow interests of individual nations.
I really hope the next UN secretary-general is as intelligent and wise as Mr Annan.

You know Debra, there have been so many people who have been an inspiration. Certainly Princess Diana is just one in many. A few others include Oprah, she does great things for people such as building her girls school in another country. I myself am a big fan of Pastor John Hagee and his wife, Dianna from Texas. I have personally met the both of them and they are charming people who share the word of God, travel around wanting to help the lost see the light. You can catch him on tv each night at 8pm Eastern time.
And just as of recently, as oddly to some as this may sound, I have thought of Patsy Ramsy as an inspiration. She struggled through the loss of a child, cancer and public ridicule. Cancer in the end as we know claimed her life. But I think she was an inspiration to those who believed in her innocence. She gave words of wisdom to other cancer patients and as we know cancer is such a horrible disease claiming so many lives. So people who can keep on going in times like that are certainly someone special in my eyes.
Peace be with you too!

George Washington Carver.
He was a freed slave, and had every reason to be bitter, but instead he used his scientific talent to the glory of God, and honored Christ.
He didn't separate faith and science--he consulted God while experimenting. The world benefits, though few mention God when they praise George Washington Carver for the agricultural and economic countributions he made through his work with soybeans and peanuts and blacks seeking higher education in the Jim Crow era.

A tall skinny man of God, a man that never tried to expand his own worth, a man who always worked in the background without ever being Noticed. His name was Fred Taylor. He was a CBHMS missionary. This man worked 12 to 14 hours a day to spread God's message and lived on next to nothing in the way of income. Yet he never complained, he never tried to show anyone what a great man of God he was. In all this he was a great man of God, Love an respected by many that he served...Jim

Yes i admire Blessed Mother Theresa too.......
That little lady lecturing the most powerful man on earth (in that time) Bill Clinton on abortion, in public, that takes alot of nerve.
Also answering doubters...I believe in love , forgiveness and mercy. Then they kept their mouths shut.
I just love her.
Alway so full of joy.
Another woman I admire is Mother Angelica.
One of my favorite quotations from her is:
"We have to be prepared to do the ridiculous so God can do the miraculous."
Peace and love

i have to agree that she has been my inspiration for so long now and if i can love half as much as she did , can see people in the way she did , can give to the world a fraction of what she did ... then i would be so content with my life .... to give so willingly and thoughtfully and unselfishly .. i will continue also

Mohamed Ali............
for refusing the draft on his spiritual principles.
resulting his being stripped of his title, and losing the opportunity
to earn alot of money.those who disagree say he was a coward
I don't believe his life would ever have been in danger if he accepted, he would have been used as an exhibition and for propaganda.... he stood up for his beliefs .and i find that admirable
