Generally during day due to more sunshine, atmosphere becomes hot and condensaion process can not happen. So when it becomes little sunshine or little cold, wapour can condence and can form water drops..so it can rain. This is reason why it would rain at eveings, nights and morning as well.
Due to heat during day it is also possible that a low pressure is formed and that would cause high pressure clouds to rush towards the area and once clouds are there and atmosphere becomes little cold it starts raining.

Many reasons can cos rain ,, but lets look at that step by step,, we need heavy and saturated clouds ,, then low temperature to condensate that,, then some nucleation which can be cos by dust , bacteria or any flying particales which can make tiny water drops become bigger,, also sound energy can help on that,, so i think your right about time as all these reasons will be avaliable

some of it could be explained by the phenomenon of tropical rain in the afternoon, since the air reaches it's maximum capacity of water at the early afternoon, due to high rate of evaporation and high temperatures, in the late afternoon, when temperatures start to drop, the water capacity of air drops and a lot of water vapor is exited from the atmosphere to become rain.
