If your Excel is version 95/97, then you can open the file using some editor to view the password. It is right at the start of the file.
If your Excel is of a higher version, you need a software to crack it. I tried password studio pro and it works. Every additional letter you have in your password mean the time to crack it will double. For example, a 4-chacacter password will take twice the time to crack than a 3-character password. It could take days to crack a long password.
