curious question as i have only been with him for 8 month and i am very close to him and i love him a lot

If he didn't answer it's because the answer wasn't "yes".
Either the answer is "no", "not yet", or "arrrgghhhhhhhh commitmenttttttt?!?!?!!!"

There could be all sorts of answers to this which I cannot give since I know nothing about you and your relationship.
The only thing I can say is that you shouldnt take silence as a rejection as this is a HUGE question and commitment and he rightly would need some time to think it over ... also coming from the lady it might have been a bit of a shock to him.
Best thing you can do is to talk to him about it, reassure him that he is not under pressure and then give him some time to think about it .. I am sure his feelings will come to the surface and you will learn which way things are going to go.

well for a start if u find that ur own question is curious why then the suprise with ur b.friend's reaction. well that is that as for me , u know marriage is not something u just jump into it just like that . that is a life decision which will ehance alot of sacrifices . it is quite different from dating u know.maybe he is simply not just ready for that . u see 8 months if being together is not enought time for u or anyone to know that this person is right for me . pls just give him some time more and see his reaction abt this . well in my society ,marriage is not something u just get into it like that . ok take some time and reflect over it ok i think u will get some good result here is my email if u intend checking out more about it goddyversife@yahoo.co.uk. all the best .

I have the same problem and I am at the same situation like you.
My boyfriend and I are almost a year together...and I wanted him to get engage with me for about 3 months ago..he agreed to do so in the summer and told his family but it seems that his parents told him that he should wait some more years so that he can get to know me more.
I love my boyfriend very much and he might love me...but I think you should wait and share your great passion with him and give him and always nice smile..laugh with his jokes and cook for him ...because these are things that can change the whole world for you...and get promotion in your job..never forget that.
Stay tolerent and always at his side..
When a man feels there is nobody else better than you for him..he will addicted to you, and then you might get marry and live happily ever after..
But girl..this is really hard for you and also for me and for all real lovers who try to bring up boys to this point of church for a girl in the white dress...
There are so many girls everywhere for men...and boys love to have sex ,well most of them...and there are so many girls on the internet, personal sites, disco , bars, at work, in the coffee shop .at school ...everywhere who want to catch your boyfriend s eyes....so you are not the only one...you should play the role in this picture as the Guard of your boyfriend...
If he worths to admire and love you and be honest to you, then be happy that he will marry you one day.

Maybe he feels like Hes not ready and he just doesn't know what to say to you, or otherwise hes really excited and by you asking you just made him speechless. Either way you should just sit down and talk to him, because you can't guess whats going on in his head and unless you ask him you'll just keep wondering because none of us know him so we can only guess what his thinking, Speak to him and you'll soon find out why.

Honestly..if he didn't answer, he wasn't ready. That doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't love you.
Plus...a woman asking is quite desperate...kinda makes a man feel inferior. At the end of the day thats the only job he has when it comes to weddings!!!!

you probably frightened the pants off him. just knowing him 8 months scary, and also being asked to marry by a girl double scary... I think you're lucky he hasn't done a runner completely. don't ask him again
