First of all, yes. Jesus' lineage is traced all the way back to them, which makes it pretty difficult for them to just be a story.
As to different races... It is probably a combination of several things. People can have genes for many traits that they themselves do not posess. Submissive genes can come out when you would not expect them. For example, my neice has blue eyes (normally a submissive trait). Her mother has brown eyes, and her father has dark hazel eyes. In fact, 3 out of 4 of her grandparents have brown eyes. I believe that at the Tower of Babel, when God confused their languages, people with similiar genetic traits ended up speaking the same language, and it only took a few generations for various races to appear.

Good point. What happened to Lilith?
Actually, if you care, scientifically speaking, we can trace everybody back to one woman and one man. However, these two beings did not live at the same time or maybe not even the same place. It just happened that all the other gene pools got weeded out, if that makes sense.
And historically, if Adam and Eve lived only about 6000 years ago, man wouldn't have had enough time to diversify like this. That's also because of Noah's ark and the flood, which would have reduced the population down to about 8 people in around 2000 BC. So 4000 years for 8 people to populate the entire earth and diversify into this many "races" is clearly not enough time.

Yes they existed.
You would want to find out about how melanin works if you want to know why there are different skin colours. Basically Adam and Eve would've been olive skin toned. Then they could have the possibility of going darker, or lighter. The human body can adapt (NOT evolve) to its environment. If people move to a warmer climate, after living there, they adapt to live in that environment, and the skin will either darken or lighten.
I have a dark skinned indian friend whose grandparents were white! It's all in the genes as well.

There are people who say that a priest in 6,000 B.C. made up the story to give people a sense of a beginning and to bring focus to one God rather than many Gods that people were worshiping at that time. Adam and Eve helped us create a vision of how we all were created in his image and we were all born with our own free will. Knowing how long humans have been on this earth, its difficult to believe that the story of Adam and Eve lasted as long as mankind existed. Although there are many literalists who still hold on to the story as exact truth. Take what you can from the message, and believe what you feel is truth.

It seems like when I agree with what the bible says people judge me. I truly beleive Adam and Eve existed. Since nothing in the bible can really be proven or disproven whether or not what is in it is true is based on faith.

i personally dont believe that they did. it isnt logistically possible. and if they did, they wouldn't be white. what amazes me is that everyone thinks that Jesus was white and had blonde hair or brown hair. How many people think that he had black hair and was a tan color? very few. look at thew are that jesus was from. THE MIDDLE EAST. Tell me how Jesus could have been anything but tan with dark hair? And it has been speculated that the Garden of Eden was near Italy, so that would make everyone there black haired with an olive colored skin. but people dont listen to logistics....
I agree with David D's answer. Why would you want to believe anything from a book that has lost its true meaning due to translation over the years?

there may be the first man and woman. the adam and eve may be names made up and could symbolize something.
adam comes from the hebrew word man, derived from the color red (he may be reddish skinned), and to make (eve came from adam's ribs)
eve comes from the derived hebrew word of "to live", meaning that life comes out of her (giving birth). :D

yes, they do. just one evidence (out of several others) of this can be found in the Qur'an 20: 115-122. there's even a hadith on this.
