Get her to help out in the cooking. Then she'll know what's in the food, hopefully she'll have had a taste of the bowl and both of you will have had a chance to chat and get messy!

I have a 7 year old and he loves Chicken nuggets but only the high quality ones (not McDonalds or other) they are more expensive but you can taste the chicken - go to a better supermarket (Waitrose of M&S) also just plain vegetables such as carrots in a little butter and fresh sweetcorn is also usually liked. My son loves Broccoli as well - strange but true.
High quality fishfingers are also a good idea.
Also you are in a strong position to help your friends by trying to persuade the littel girl to try things!
Anyway good luck (not easy) when you find out what she really likes hold that in resrve just in case.
I do strongly recommend that you ask your friends what specific likes and dislike this little girl has before doing anything.

As she sounds like a fussy eater why not talk with her mother about the type of foods she likes best so you will have some idea of what she will eat.
Fish fingers, nuggets, chips, baked beans, pasta, pizza and jacket potatoes aren't very inspiring but most kids like them.
Ask her mum what types of things she recommends it's better to have something she will eat than you all be eating and her having bread and butter.

I have just spoken with my son who is 7 and also a plain eater and he said that you should try Spaghetti bolognaise. Chop the onion finely and only use red pepper so it blends in the with the sauce and never use mushrooms (she will think you are trying to poisen her!!!!) Serve with the long spaghetti pasta as kids love making a mess when they are eating and serve a really nice icecream for pudding (also good as a blackmail to eat the dinner!!)
Good luck

My idea is when making marinated dishes or things with sauce just put her portion aside. Also start getting her involved in the kitchen. Have her stir ingredients in a bowl. Measure out things maybe even stir the pot while its cooking as long as you help. Also never allow her to say ewww i dont like that with out first trying it. she should get a small portion (only a bite or 2 worth) of everything being served

How about a simple pasta dish - a plain tomato sauce (which can be spiced up with a dash of chilli for the grown ups) and spaghetti. You could always make the sauce with loads of veggies in and them blend it to 'disguise' them!

My son is 6 he loves fajitas.... I make them myself and put hardly any spice in.... same goes for the salsa.... he loves making them, I think it is a kid thing of being able to put your own dinner together.
He also loves spaghetti bolognaise, either with spaghetti (but that gets messy) or pasta shells or twirls (much less messy).
I would suggest buying a jigsaw and a colouring book and pencils as that will keep her amused while you are chatting with your friends.
Good luck!
