I've been a vegetarian for about 20 years and I'm still alive! I eat a healthy diet (without meat which clogs the colon and sits in the stomach and rots), and I get my protein from pulses, dairy products etc. I feel better than I ever have - I have plenty of energy, I'm slim and my skin and hair glow with health. My children are being brought up as strict vegetarians but it will be up to them if they want to eat meat later in their lives.
it seems to me that the only people who have issues with a veggie diet are the meat eaters!

It is a very good question.
There may be many 'Yes' and 'No' answers, but I think that essentially it remains unproven.
We would need to study a culture of people throughout their lives to really determine the answer.
It would seem that certain individuals are healthier on a 'veggie', but whether it would work throughout a population is still debate-able.
Contrary to popular vegan opinion, there is no culture or group that survives on what the West would consider a vegan diet.
Buddhists consider many animals to not be animals, and therefore eat them, and all pasturalist communities use either the blood or milk of their beasts as food.
As an amateur naturalist, I would think that our bodies lack the suitable machinery to process adequately many of leafy or fibrous greens we ingest. At least not to the point of surviving on a purely leaf/root diet.
However, here in the East I often see chained dogs fed almost exclusively on leftover rice (with some meagre meat sauce and half eaten greens - admittedly).
So as a full-bloodied steak and chips man myself - I would have to say I really don't know. But, feeding the western idea of a strict vegan diet to young (or even growing) children should/could constitute child abuse, with our current knowledge. The intention may be pure, but I would consider it just too risky.

You have asked a loaded question. Your subliminal message is, "I think that it is wrong to kill and eat animals". You actually answer your own question by stating that, "not only can you survive but you will be healthier". I think maybe your real question should be, "can a human survive adequately on a vegetarian diet"? I think the answer would be, "yes", but you would have to plan your food intake more carefully if you eliminated meat, to make sure that you ate enough protein, vitamins, minerals, fats, amino acids etc, particularly in winter. In todays society eating isn't just about survival, but also about enjoyment.
Yours is a moral argument and I wouldn't presume to state that you are wrong, because I find myself not buying as much red meat as I used to, and I don't really know why.

I eat steak bloodier the better I slso eat plenty of veggies and am extremely healthy. I do have vegan and vegetarian friends all of which are frail by comparison but healthy. so yes you can survive on no meat but you wont get the same benifits without meat in your diet. most vegans I know get sick more have nowhere near the strength altho they also dont have the cholesterol or heart disease so basically its a trade off . lol vegan = weak, sickly but live longer , meat not sick as much stronger but die a few years soon with bein able to enjoy a good burger.

You know the answer to an obvious question and yet still choose to ask it. There is a subliminal message here which says one of two things. Either "I am better than you because I do not need to eat dead animals to survive" or "I think vegeterians are sel-satisfied people who have no business lecturing us meat-eaters".
As in everything else in life, make your choices and accept the choices of others.

In order to survive without meat you need to have a well balanced diet.
This includes lots of pulses, i.e. lentils, beans, nuts etc.
Most vegetarians and vegans take supplements to balance their diet.
Try not to live on fruit alone as the acid contained in most will rot you teeth.
It may be advisable for you to visit a health shop before you start and get some advice on what supplements you will need for your diet.
"Good Luck" there are many people on this earth who choose not to eat meat so you are not alone.

Infact they can survive and live healthy but they miss out some essential parts of their diet. Mostly it is considered that meat is to just provide us the protiens but in actual, meat contains protiens, carbohyderates, fats and few acids that are necessary for metabolism to take place correctly. The discussion between vegiterians and non vegeterians is always on the contents of diet and other sources from where they can get it, other than animals.
Vegeterians' point of view is correct that they can get protiens from pulses, fats from milk etc but instead of eating so many things to gain the 3 basic elements of your diet (carbohyderates, protiens and fats) when you eat meat, you get all three of them from the single source.
Biologically speaking, when you look at the animals who eat meat (lions, dogs, cats etc) you will find that they do not have the front teeth but on the sides they have sharp cutting teeth. Those animals that do not eat meat (goats, cows, buffaloes etc) do have teeth in front and then the chewing teeth but are missing those sharp edged teeth on sides. Now look at human beings, they have front teeth to grab the food, back teeth to chew and yet they have those sharp cutting teeth on the sides that means that nature has made the biology of human beings as such that they can eat vegitables as well as meat.
This also indicates that though human beings can eat vegitables yet survive but its according to the nature that they eat meat also.
As fas as the debate of killing the animals for own food needs is concerned, well, those who eat vegitables also kill the plants and fruits (as those are living things too) for their food needs, when they pluck them off the trees.

Yes...humans can survive without eating animal proteins. The only problem that vegetarians may have is they sometimes need a B12 supplement.

Yes, although "healthier" is a moot point. Both veggie and carnivorous diets can be healthy or unhealthy depending on the way you balance it out.
Most of your essential nutrients can be gained purely from veg and pulses, and these should indeed make up a large amount of your diet.
