for example there is an e-commerce application or a bank application,how do we classify modules in the above 2 software applications

simple web page = html document + some Applet
last two are modules

Module is a self-sufficient piece of a software application. For e.g.n in a Bank Application following will classify as modules: Customer Master (keeping all records of the bank customer), Report Master (record of all accounting/misc reports), etc.

Module is nothing but a Piece. For Example U r software will be the various modules. Linke Data Entry,Query, Reports like various modules. In Data Entry we can enter the details of the a/c.

You can consider modules as independent pieces of software , which can be integrated into any other software.
e.g. Consider "Funds Transfer" module. This module will be used in both softwares -- e-commerce and bank application.

consider a bank application.
it can be divided into transactions,loans,details of staff .or based upon the departments it can be classified. each division achieves a particular goal.i.e., a loan achieves sanction of loans and keeping the track of repaying it. so we can say loan is a module,similarly transaction is a module. each module has a lot of submodule.say for example transaction may involve receipts and payments as sub modules.
