I can make mac & cheese and grilled cheese, but I'm out of shape and have a busy schedule and am on a budget. What things can I buy at say walmart, fix within 30 minutes, or fix and pack in my lunch for work, and live healthy. Fatty foods are just so much cheaper and convient, but Im ready to make a change. Someone please help...

Good for you!

Grilled lean meat, with salads or steamed veges are quick and easy.

Stir-fries with rice also easy.

For lunch - salads, wraps and sandwiches.

There are several cookbooks out these days that will help you in this dilema. Try Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals. The recipes are easy to follow and have few ingredients. Another book you can find is called The Healthy College Cookbook: Quick. Cheap. Easy. It is full of inexpensive meals that anyone (even if you don't know how to cook) can prepare. Also try How to Boil Water: A Survival Manual for New Cooks by Helen Hanna.

I hope this helps you out. Cooking is not as hard as you think and once you get the hang of it you can start cooking for the girls.

Salads are easy....just keep things separated until you are ready to eat. You can steam or lightly cook some vegies in olive oil, have some grilled turkey or chicken already cut up. Just take a big container of mixed greens and add your vegies and meat at the last minute. There are lots of fat free/sugar free dressings you can buy to put on top.

Start out getting a cookbook which specializes in 3 or 4 ingredients. There are a few out there. Then you can follow that until you want to explore more. The easy part is cooking. The hard part is cleaning up. good luck.

Try making Ramen noodles but put an egg in the water with the noodles while its boiling, you can also add green onions and corn/carrots/peas. You can put deli meat (roast beef/sliced turkey/sliced chicken) in if you want. Rice is cheap, you can buy boil in the bag rice (its fool proof). Whenever you cook meat add lots of easy to cook vegetables. Buy whole corn cobs and boil them without husking for about 10 mins, they're good with or without butter and salt. You can also pan fry or bake (I also recommend a small George Foreman grill (if you can afford it)) chicken or beef and add it to alot of salad (lettuce and veggies of your choice).. if you marinade the meat(just let thawed meat sit in seasoning, you can purchase marinade mixes or liquid marinade) you won't have to use much if any dressing.
When you make something like spaghetti use lean meat and cook fresh tomatoes in your sauce, you can also use whole wheat noodles, though I have tried any that I like.

You can e-mail me for any help, I'm not an expert but I have had alot of experience with low income cooking.

I used to be overweight as well. Without sounding like Jared, go to Subway and get there healthy subs. Make sure you get them without cheese or olives and light dressing. You'll be amazed at how much you can lose And try exercising! Even if it's a small step. I began running a half-mile and have built up to six miles. Start slow though, don't kill yourself. 5.5 or 6.0mph is fine!

you can include fruit in your diet, which is cheap and easy to pack....can't get enough of fruit and buy like two different types one week, and two different types next week. sandwiches are simple and cheap as well.....like peanut butter & banana, corn beef slices with lettuce & pickle, veggie sandwich (cream cheese, sprouts, avocado, onion, processed cheese, i know, but it's so so yummie). throw a salad together really quick and change up what you have in the salad....beans, sprouts, chunks of cheddar, onions, olives, mushrooms, feta....instead of dressing sprinkle parmesan cheese and pepper, this is what i do on all my salads. do pasta some meals with a different sauce. don't bore yourself by making the same thing week after week. oh i forgot, since you like cheese, have you tried pickle and cheese sandwiches...oh my gosh, they sound crazy but they are so yummy.
