And also a lot of these foreign cars here without tax discs and no insurance - what do we do about it? The police don't seem to be doing much.

We now have 1.6 Million unemployed! amongst our ranks.

What have the government done? opened the floodgates to 10,000's of eastern europeans - Think they've realised they have dropped a bollock though, as they are to limit numbers from the new EU member seeing as they cocked the figures up last time. Also it appears foreign nurses are to be sent packing, as our home produced nurses are struggling to find jobs - IS? common sence finally prevailing???

And saying that they do job the British won't do frankly is crap! an explaination of what these jobs are would be appreciated - Is it the job, or the wages that particular job pays - remember the immigrants can afford to take much less for a job - The Polish drivers we have at work send most their money home and only have to work 6 months of the year to maint' their standard of living in Poland.

Oh and don't forget the 50,000 claims from these immigrants for child benefit for kids who don't even live in this country - apparently they are exploiting a loop hole in our benefit rules - wonder which do-gooder organisations pointed that one out to the scroungers!!

Bringing in this source of cheap labour put ALL our jobs/wages at risk - The sooner the bloody unions wake up to this, instead of welcoming them in (new members = more money - new jag for union head) the better!!

Oh and John M - I find the generalisation that the English don't want to work racist! BTW - The immigrants don't live over here, they can't afford the house prices cos' they get crap wages, so they won't end up with better houses - well maybe but not here, Poland perhaps.

What with Poland and such eastern European countries now allowed into the EU, we have seen a huge influx of people. However, and I'm sorry that I don't know that source, but apparently our economy relies hugely upon Polish people, though cannot remember the exact percentage. The fact is, that if all polish people were to get up and leave, our economy would totally collapse.

A better question might be, why are UK citizens not taking these jobs, rather than wanting to sit at home all day on the dole. Many people claim that immigrants just sit around all day - quite the contrary, these are the people that pretty much make our country work, working the long hours, for minimal wages. However, they do send a lot of their money back home, so it leaves the country, which is bad. In addition, it does create more tension in communities, when 'foreigners' move in, who can hardly speak English.

But to be quite honest, is it really fair that just because we were lucky to be brought up in one of the richest countries in the world, we should close our doors to anyone and everyone who wishes to live here, even if they are willing to contribute more than many UK citizens. I wouldn't say so.

Despite what the Sun and the Daily Mail might tell you, we have fewer people coming into the country than leaving it. Foreign workers at least do work, unlike the third generation council estate dole bludgers who expect tohave their hordes of disgusting offspring be paid for by the already overburdened taxpayer. Immigrants are willing to work for low wages because it's still better than where they are from.

Yes, there are a lot of untaxed and uninsured vehicles on the roads, not all of them owned by immigrants. The police are understaffed and underfunded and have to deal with a ridiculous workload and almost impossible working hours. The court system has broken down because the prisons are full, so in all honesty, there is very little the police CAN do, even if they had time to deal with untaxed cars.

This country's population has become divided and insular to the point of being blindly selfish. If more people took a bit more responsibility for their own actions and were willing to be more helpful to each other instead of expecting the world to revolve around them, things would not have got so bad.

I'll give you an example - I was recently in another European country, where a group of teenage lads were mucking around on a moped and with a football. They caused a woman to be knocked off her bike. Everybody in the vaccinity came to help and when the teenagers got argumentetive, the woman was supported and the lads had to stand down and swagger off. In Britain, everyone would have stepped over - or on - the woman, muttering about the yobs while being too busy too notice what was going on. I'm not saying we should have gangs of vigilantes taking on knife wielding street thugs, but we could do more to help ourselves.

Well there are two questions here - the first is about immigration. It is true that immigrants are coming to the UK but if we are talking about legal ones they are entitled to the same wages as UK nationals, illegal ones on the other hand are by their very nature an unqualified number and it is UK employers taking advantage of the situation for greater profit. Your second question seems to be about tourism - The UK is unique is requiring tax discs e.g. in France a toll system pays for the upkeep of roads/etc (which our government is considering replacing the tax system with) and as for no insurance - well I doubt that that is the case as this is a universal requirement - It is worth noting that there are many boy racers who are UK nationals who drive minus tax and insurance

Depends. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens have absolute right to come to live and work or start a business or be tourists in the UK and elsewhere in the EU (subject to the treaty provision for a transitional period, which the UK heretofore has not invoked).

Under the EU law abolishing green cards (proof of auto insurance), the Motor Insurance Board of the country in which a car purports to be registered in the EU (even if there is no insurance and the plates are forged) must pay third-party liability claims.

A foreign car normally is admitted to the UK for a year without tax, inspection or proof of insurance. Really, only EU cars should be admitted without insurance. Visitors who cannot prove insurance ought to be required to buy it at Dover or another port (and they can; the AA there sells "Q" plates for cars without any, or whose plates are unreadable because in Arabic, and it also sells insurance). But Customs don't enforce the law.

DON'T GO THERE!...you'll start me off.

I was involved in a collision with a Polish registered car 2 months ago (His Fault). They drove off but even though I have got their registration number the police are finding it difficult to trace them.
As they are moving around the country, looking for work and have no fixed address. The police stated that if they have not been traced within 30 days they probably will not be caught. It's about the amount of time the police can dedicate to tracing them.

I don't mind them coming over here if it's for a legitimate job. We are short of skills, but I get pi**ed off when they come over with nothing and expect 'US' to pay for their well fare.

Carefull how you use the word Immigrant...If we trace back our ancestry you will find we are all Immigrants. If we get fed up with the UK and emigrate we become Immigrants ourselves.

The UK and America have the same type of situations when it comes to the illegal immigrants they should all be jailed then tagged and sent back to there Country paid by there own Country they even should even pay for jail time. They bring down the Countries by draining the resource's set aside for the legal hard working tax paying citizens and driving the poverty up

Unfortunately it's a result of the "free market" - Companies will import labour at the cheapest price they can.

Our government has got way behind the curve with regards to immigration control, and the number of illegal immigrants is staggeringly high - Which severely effects domestic unemployment. Your'e right - there needs to be a crack down

all the imigrants i've met are great people, as long as they come here to live and work and spend their wages in this country whats the problem? I know a guy who works a full day on top of his university course, and at the end of the day his wife and daughter come and meet him from work everyday. they are the happiest people i know. they don't take anything for grantite and work incredably hard for all they have.

There are lots of jobs out there to go around, you just need to look harder if you want more money.
