over the years, I have raised dogs indoor and out..the ones kept inside pick up so many vocabulary and communications skills, that it seems a shame to keep any of them outside, thereby keeping them from being, "All that they can be".
However, the exceptions would certainly be dogs with a job to do, out of doors..such as our Great Pyrenees, who's job it was to protect and nurture the Emus and Rheas..

I think it matter what type of dogs or dog you have i have 3 small dogs i think by them being inside they learn more from me and are more protective of any one coming in my home. When i am alone (although i do have a gun) still fill save knowing they are their. I also love that they are like little children wanting your love and to be your baby who wouldn't want that.
Now if you have a large dog that is more use to the outside world or raised to be and outside protector then i think that is OK to although i did have a husky that i did let in the house a lot he did stay outside big dog need their room
I think you gain a lot from having a dog inside you are more connected and have a stronger bond with a inside dog or a dog you may let in occasionally than a dog that is outside all the time.

What's the point of having a dog if he stays outside in a fenced yard where no one plays with him? He's not a watch dog out there. I know that's not the case all the time, but I've had several neighbors that did just that, really pissed me off. My dogs go outside for a couple hours a day, spend most of the time inside though.

Yes, unless they are outside dogs, and they want to be there. Most of our dogs always want to be with us, and that's inside. We have a small dog that goes in a Big Rig, and he loves the open road. I think of dogs more as fury people, so I get attached to them more than some do. Yes they are dogs, but they are my family too. : P

My German Sheppard is, I think most dogs can be trained to be good inside dogs, I always leave mine outside though if I'm going out, she likes to dig in the trash. Just don't teach them bad habits like eating food scraps (I think thats why mine digs into the trash), jumping on the couch/bed, ect. Unless you're willing to allow them to do it all of the time.

My Chocolate Lab is a house dog. He is a member of our family and we are his "pack." I find that if you want a dog, it should be in the house with you. Dogs who are left outside are very lonely and lost without a pack to be part of. I consider it animal abuse.

It depends on you, I have 2 dogs (cocker spaniel & malteze) & they are allowed inside but when we have visiters they go out. I wash them once a week & you can now by a carpet spray for animal smells.
