Running and barking.

My dog runs and barks well little like barking in his sleep. I imagine he is thinking of running through a field or barking from the window of a car.

Just like humans, animals dream of varied things. From nightmares to wet/exciting dreams lol.
Dreams come from the subconscious, so they'd probably dream of past events, or something that makes them happy, like bones etc? :)

I can generally tell by his growls or moans, or the the way his legs move. If he's moaning/whining, he's chasing skunks; if his legs are moving in a continuous circle, he's running or going on a walk with me. The more you know your dog, the more you'll be able to answer that question.

Watch it when it sleeps without it knowing, watch the movments, if not all, arrange some x-ray machines and go with it to get the scanning of its brain cells.
