It is no ones fault. The story of Adam and Eve is an analogy for human weakness and choice. With all choices good and bad there are going to be repercussions. Within us is the capacity to be weak and make bad decisions.

God is the greatest story teller, he can paint the picture which is as true today as the day it was written. But our challenge is one of interpretation. If we take this as a literal story ,we fail to see the truth of it in our own lives.

There both at fault neither of them used the good sence God gave them. Eve listened to a reptile and Adam listened to a woman.

milton makes quite clear that adam was the more at fault in sinning because adam had the greater moral discrimination: 'he for god only; she for god in him' [iv:298].
milton is quite clear that it is a woman's nature to yield to temptation (he demanded total docility from all his own wives - as you will find if you read robert graves' historical novel 'wife to mr. milton') - so it was to be expected that eve would fall to the serpent without adam there to guide her.
delilah in 'samson agonistes' is also a character partly excused by her natural weakness. milton's attitude is that you shouldn't expect too much of women:- they are the weaker sex.
