Maybe, but that's beside the point. You should get out of the academic world, and go get a civil engineering job in the real world. Then you will learn. And you'll make a lot more money too. What good is a lecturer with no experience??? If all you want is knowledge, then read a book. Go out and get a real job, for 30 years, and then go back to the Universities. Then at least you will have something to offer to your students.

As a civil engineer, potential employers will be looking at what projects you have managed and if they are relevant to what they want you for. For example, if you have experience in high rise residential developments, an employer doing such work would be interested in you. The main thing is to get some project experience (anywhere) and then find work based on that.

There is a lot of construction activity going on in india at present.You must try to get real construction experience by joining a construction company.If possible you can do a management course in Construction and/or real estate development. This would be better for your ambition of getting a job in UK.

there is a lot you can do as a civil engineer. first leave what you are doing, go out to metro cities to gain experience in designing and construction.
then you can fly away to uk with good expertise.
