No smoking law in pubs and enclosed areas that is now in force in Scotland and is soon to be implemented in England? Do you think that the government will soon make it illegal to smoke in your car and in your own home?

YES.

As a non smoker who has spent years waking up in the morning with my hair and clothes stinking of smoke, and the taste of smoke in my throat after a night out, I am so pleased with the new law.

It's about time the rights of non smokers to CLEAN AIR was recognised!!!

I don't think the Government will stop people from smoking in their own homes or their own cars. If smokers want to kill themselves that's ok. Suicide is not illegal. Man slaughter is!

I don't agree with it. I'm a smoker, and I think it should be the pubs choice wether to allow smoking or not. There should be adequate regulations to protect workers and other customers from second hand smoke - no smoking at the bar and seperate, ventillated smoking areas. I wouldn't adhere to a ban on smoking in my home - it is my sactuary, and aslong as I am not causing harm/distress to my neighbours, I will do what I please wether that is illegal or not. I am a considerate smoker - I have friends that don't like smoke, so I don't smoke around them. I don't smoke around children either, and if I'm smoking when walking home I don't walk just behind people and I make sure I keep away from people, especially those with children. I agree with the ban on smoking in most workplaces - in an office for example. But i feel that bars should be exempt from this - it is common knowlegde that people smoke and drink in pubs. If you do not want to be around smoke or alcohol, don't get a job in a pub. Everyone knows the effects of second hand smoking now, ignorance is not an excuse. The rights of the many outweigh the rights of a few, but over this, I feel there needs to be a little compromise. Smoking is an addiction don't forget, and I personally feel persecuted and penalised for an illness I didn't choose to get - how was I to know at 11 I would get addicted? People seem more understanding about my alcohol problems that my not being able to give up smoking. We should all try to be as tolerant and understanding as possible, and I believe that this should also cover smokers - we are people too!

No I don't think smoking will be banned in your car and own home. I do agree with the no smoking in public buildings because non-smokers also have the right to go to these places without being overcome by smoke. Some people have health conditions that smoke aggrevates and they find they cannot go to pubs, bingo and other places of interest to them without being made ill by the smoke.

Singapore, among other countries, has a no smoking in enclosed public places law. It is permitted in outside areas. No one there has a problem with it and everyone can enjoy the facilities of work and entertainment.

No i do not agree with no smoking in a pub, unless that pub serves food ,then there should be a seperate area for non, smokers, this ill concieved legislation is not about health, its abou the radicisation of the licensing law,the licensing act for implementing has now been taken from the judiciary and given over to the local councils, this has given rise to a massive increase in the cost of a licence it has been split into two the premisis licence now costs over 1800 quid the personal licence over 1500 quid, and a maintainance fee on both of 200 per year wheras before the local council got involved it cost 10.00 per year, it is another stealth tax, a way of raising revenue,if they wanted that badly to stop smoking then tax the manufacturers or stop them completely, freedom of choice is being eaten away i agree that smoking is not healthy ,but so is eating processed foods like that scotish firm makes, be aware this will not stop there not just cars or your house, power corrupts and this goverment is power crazy, regards LF

I lived in Dublin for a year or so, I was there the same time their smoking ban came out. I was a smoker and didn't really mind that I had to go outside for a smoke when I was at the pub. And neither did anyone else. It's not really that much of an issue - since it's essentially saving lives or at least helping to.

I think we should stop acting like spoilt children who've had something taken off them and bloody grow up. Just go outside for a ciggie and stop whinging about it!

I've since given up smoking.

I think the decision to go non smoking should be left up to the owner of the establishment. If smoking is allowed then employees should be aware of this before they start work and apply for the job. Local authorities could ensure adequate numbers of licences are granted for non smoking pubs by making it a condition if necessary. Then we would all have a choice.

Good, why should I have to breath somones second hand ciggarette smoke when I want to visit the pub.
I am an ex smoker and I have saved £1000`s by not buying cigs and also I can breath and I dont smell like a stinking ashtray.
Why do people moan about banning smoking,
SMOKING WILL KILL YOU. thats a fact.
As for smoking in your car when you are driving, have you both hands on the wheel when you are fumbeling around for a lighter? You aint allowed to use a mobile phone or eat/drink whilst driving so smoking should be included too.

I do agree with the law, but i dont think they can say you wont be able to smoke in your own home, becuase you can drink in your own home and thats not against the law......smoking in the car might be banned just like talking on the phone was, as you are holding something in your hand, and you dont have both hands on the wheel.....but you never know

I suspect the Government will look into smoking in your own home and car if there are children present, as it could be constituted to be child abuse on the grounds of poisioning and abuse. Basically I think it's OK, but deeply hypocritical to allow the tobacco companies to remain immune from prosecution for the tremendous harm that thier product does.

Im a smoker, but I do agree with no smoking in public areas. It doesnt bother me if I have to go outside for a ciggie.

I dont think they will ban it from homes, they make far too much money from smokers to try and ban it altogether.
