No smoking law in pubs and enclosed areas that is now in force in Scotland and is soon to be implemented in England? Do you think that the government will soon make it illegal to smpke in your car and in your own home?

i agree with no smoking in restaurants, as there is nothing worse than someone blowing smoke in your face while you are trying to enjoy a meal!As for pubs i think there should be designated smoking areas and not a total ban! But then again i have recently been home to Ireland and the total ban in pubs seems to work there! If anything it seems to be a great way to meet other people as they all have to congregate in the same place for a smoke and therefore start to chat! But no i don't think the government can stop you smoking at home or in your car as that is your property!

We have the no smoking laws in Dublin. I am a smoker and at first was raging that I wouldn't be able to have a smoke with a drink. However, even I have to grudgingly agree that it was a great idea. Even though I have to stand outside to have a smoke, when i come home from the pub,my clothes and hair don't stink, the air in the pub is so much better and my breathing seems to be a lot better after being in the pub. There is no way that the governments will ban smoking in your home and car. First of all they are your private property and you can do what you want in them. Second of all, the government earns way too much money from the tax on cigarettes. Third of all, if they banned smoking in homes and cars, no-one would pay a blind bit of notice.

Yes, I agree with it, and no, I don't think there is any prospect of this in the next few years. The justification for the ban is basically passive smoking by people who do not have a choice about being near you (especially those employed in such places). It is to be assumed that anyone in your home or car does have such a choice. The only thing which I see as a possible future move would be something around smoking in front of children.

I agree with the no smoking ban in public buildings and pubs etc. On the other hand, the government will not be able to made it illegal for peeps to smoke in their own homes..its not practicable or enforceable!!

i don't think so...
smoking in public can be banned or made pohibited..in the interest of general population's health..afterall pasive smokers are on an alarming rise in number of lung cancer reprted cases!cannot be banned under law....government can only make public aware of the bad consequences on health...but it's individual choice towards consuming any such tobacco products.
i don't think smoking can be made illegal altogether.

no-one can control what you do in your own home. however, i agree with the current law. by smoking around non-smokers you force them to smoke with you. the proportion of non-smokers having lung cancer is worrying and something has to be done about it.

the government wont ban smoking completely as the tax they get from ciggies is to great to give up...they get a large percentage of tax of a packet of ciggies
