Excellent question... not enough people know about these guys. They think Mike Tyson and Oscar De Lahoya invented boxing.
I am assuming that "in their prime" means they would be fighting at light heavyweight. Although Bob Foster was one of the best KO artists at that weight, I am going with the Old Mongoose Archie Moore. I believe he was an excellent defensive fighter who could also punch very hard. He also was a bit more succsesful at taking heavyweight punches (although just as Foster, he did not win a heavyweight title).
I think the longer the fight went, the less of a chance Foster would have of winning.
Moore by late TKO.

The Mongoose wins! Archie Moore was arguably the best Light Heavyweight ever. Foster was good, but Archie was the Man!

Foster - W 56 (KO's 46) TF 65 - W pct 86% - KO pct 71% - wins over D. Tiger, V. Rondon and M. Quarry - KO'ed by Frazier and Ali (all his KO defeats were by Hwy wts except 2 at the end of his career when he was 40 yrs old) - #17 ranked puncher - #55 ranked fighter

Moore - W 187 (KO's 132) TF 222 - W pct 84% - KO pct 59% - wins over Durrell, B. Satterfield and H. Johnson - KO'ed by Ali, Marciano, Patterson and E. Charles - #4 ranked puncher - #14 ranked fighter

This is fight between #1 Lighthwy wt and possibly the #2 Lighthwy wt. This would not be as easy a fight for Moore than everyone thinks. Moore will have to get up off the canvas on numerous occasions to KO Foster in the 12th rd.
