it's all an individual thing. saccharin causes cancer in lab rats, allegedly, aspartame, Equal(nutrasweet) turns into formaldehyde when stored too long. artificial sweeteners are man made and probably shouldn't be ingested by the ton. and giving your body a break from them time to time will help reduce your risks of any sort of cancer. being a diabetic, i have found that most sugar free things are higher in calories and fat than non diabetic foods and are much smaller in portion size. so, plan ahead. if you want a treat, instead of sugar free, eat 4-5 normal bites of what you crave. eat one serving or a half of a serving or just a few bites. one natural sweetener that i found works for my diabetes is sweet leaf. it's found in health food stores either in extract or powder form. it enhances the taste of what i'm adding it to, and it has natural fiber that helps keep my sugars in control. i like to add it to my green tea and fruit. the brand name is called stevia. and, i like to use Royal Jelly as well. it's the food the worker bees use to feed the queen; it provides enough nutrients to allow her to live for 7 years. it is a honey product, and does have natural sugars, but i work it into my meal plan. i use it on toast or in my oatmeal. i eat pretty naturally and high fiber.
