Go ahead and breasrfeed in public. You know you are doing what you feel is right for your child. But I don't think all women don't like it because they are jealous. Some might, but many others are just judgemental about the decisions and practices of others. Some are grossed out at the thought of an exposed boob in a restaurant. They don't realize that since we are feeding our babies our boobs are cleaner than the forks that they are putting in their mouths.
No, I don't think they are jealous - just upset that someone would dare make a decision that they themselves wouldn't make.

My son is 9 months old and still breastfeeding. I have had to feed him everywhere. Most of the time I just go to the bathroom and feed him. Alot of places have nursing rooms where you can go sit in a rocking chair and feed your baby. Breastfeeding in public is pretty much up to the mother. I tried not to do it around people if I could avoid it but that was just because I am a really shy person. When I had to feed him in public I covered his head and my shoulder with a blanket and most of the time nobody even noticed. Breastfeeding is always best for your child and who cares if other people dont want you to feed your own kid in public? Thats about the same as saying someones kid cant have a bottle in public. =)

some people get offended because they think it is inappropriate. Don't worry about it. I breastfeed my children in public with a blanket over us. In the state I live there was some kind of law passed within the past few years that made it legal for women to breastfeed in public instead of being accused of being indecent. you are right. women are given breast specifically for this purpose. there is nothing wrong with doing it in public. thank you for breastfeeding!

Oh, where do you live? In my country, many mothers breastfeed in public and nobody care. I think that's good, especially for your baby!
He/she can feel that you are the nearest one, wherever you are.
If other people don't like that, aha, I think they are jealous person.
My favorite author has ever begun to write a famous book after saw a mother breastfeed in a street, because that's the most beautiful sight of life.

Not me. I wasn't able to breastfeed my daughter but I applaud you for the dedication it takes to breastfeed a child. I think it's a very natural thing ( I mean cmon, why else do women have breasts? Certainly not to look good in bikinis.) and its healthier for a baby, too. It even has a positive effect on IQ. I think people who object to breastfeeding in public are prudes or religious nuts or just plain nasty. I mean, seriously, if it bothers you, just don't look. Women usually have clothing or a blanket draped over them anyway so you can't see anything. I find scantily clad teenagers and couples who are hard-core making-out much more offensive.

well i dont see a problem with women breast feeding in public, i mean babies do have to eat. but i think that you were wrong in saying that other women were jealous because it hurt too bad, i dont think its jealousy at all. there are some women who breast feed for attention, and they purposely make sure that everyone can see their breasts for attention and that is not right. you should be modest while feeding, im not saying you should go to the bathroom or hide somewhere, but cover up and dont be hanging all out there.

Well, I was on your side until you got all judgmental, abrasive, and rude at the end there. Just because some women aren't able to experience the emotional bonding that is breastfeeding, doesn't mean you need to rub it in their faces and declare them jealous. You don't need to be so self-righteous. Everyone is welcome to raise their children exactly how they'd like to; who are you to rag on another woman? Shouldn't we bond together and praise each other for the accomplishments that we ARE able to achieve with our children?
Anyway, back on topic...
Of course you're not a bad mother for breast-feeding in public, but you should attempt to be discreet about it, if possible. That sort of situation would make me feel very uncomfortable to be around, unless it were handled with respect of the nearby population. I'm very squeamish and uncomfortable with the human body. I'm not a mother myself, and I never plan to be at this point, but everyone has a right to eat, including babies who are breastfeeding. Right?

i think if people are allowed to bottle feed their baby in public then its okay to breast feed in public. its a natural thing and i think its ridiculous that some people think its "shameful" and should be hidden.
ps-other mothers dont just not breastfeed because it hurts too much-sometimes they dont produce enough milk, or their nipples are shaped wrong, or sometimes the baby just wont latch on. many times a woman wants to breast feed but she just cant

you're just feeding your child that is hungry. i can't believe some of the crap i hear on tv and from other people about women nursing in public. do they forget there is a hungry baby in the picture? babies gotta eat, and i'll be damned if they should have to eat in a stall of a public restroom just so some emotionally insecure jerk doesn't get uncomfortable and throw a fit. we have breasts for a reason, and we should not have to hide them when we use them for their intended purpose!!!!!

Mothers have been breastfeeding their babies for as long as there have been babies; it's natural and there's no reason to hide it. That's what mother's breasts are meant to do.
People who don't want to see babies being fed in public should go home and have their own meals in private, or grow up.
