It has been 23 years since my last confession and I've booked a one-week, all inclusive confession to catch up, but once I've completed this, I'd like to keep more on task. Holy penance batman!!

Don't do it. Think of confession like a mortgage payment. If you double up on mortgage payments (i.e., paying 500 twice a month instead of 1000 once a month per contract) you can cut seven years off of a 30 year mortgage. If you confess your sins on an accelerated schedule with a 30 year remaining life span, you will cut seven years off your life span.

Well, you are in for a treat. You are going to feel so good. I wouldn't worry about a long laundry list of sins. Just do a good honest examination of your conscience and try to focus on the sins that are really causing you to feel separated from God. Don't worry if you leave any out, they are still forgiven as long as you weren't purposely omitting something out of shame. Later on if you remember a big sin, you can just mention it the next time you go to confession, but it is still already forgiven.

Personally, I go to confession pretty regularly now, about every one to three weeks. It kind of helps me keep things in perspective and gives me the grace I need to avoid sinning again.

I am so excited for you. You are going to feel great!

Sounds like somebody doesn't want to go to heaven. Sounds like you don't really believe in confession, or maybe you just didn't think you'd die.

I hope you remembered all those sins. It only takes one to keep you from grace. (Wait a minute, if it's by grace that you're saved, why do you have to keep doing things to keep it? Isn't salvation a gift?)

Can't you do all that when you receive holy rites when you die anyway? Or your relatives could buy you into heaven, if they have enough money. Purgatory can't be all bad, especially for just a little while.

Christian(ish) religions supply a handy out for guilt. You make an apology on your imaginary pal, fairly than the guy you wronged. this permits you to experience stable approximately your self, inspite of the shown fact which you haven't any longer fairly made stable. the sensation you recieve is super. it fairly is been my experience that it fairly is only as friendly as making amends for genuine. (in actuality, it felt much greater advantageous via fact the humility required to truly make an apology to a real guy or woman is extraordinarily substantial.)

Well, i'm not against any religion or its pratices but it would be better to not sin in the first place, i know that it would be hard for you to do so, but try.

A better alternative would be to apologise to GOD if you feel that you have sinned. the apology shuld come from your heart and you should mean it. if you feel that all your guilt has left, consider it as apology accepted.

Believe me i've tried it ad it works!

And I thought you were perfect! I don't think you need a running list as I think that God keeps that list for all of us. I suppose talking to your minister would be a great place to "set up" a schedule as it were.

Why don't you just ask the LORD to forgive you instead of going to confession?

Asking a priest to forgive you does not make you forgiven. There is no power given unto priests to cleanse you of your sins.

Only the LORD can forgive your sins. Every sin you commit is against the LORD, not some priest.

I'm fairly sure you shouldn't be asking this.

Do what you're comfortable with. Confession is a personal choice and don't go because someone else wants you to. Go because you want to be saved. Good luck my friend.

Frequent confession is better, and is recommended by the pope.
So I would say go bi-weekly.

23 years???? You are going to hell, REPENT!!!
We went every week when I was a kid, but why bother? Every good catholic knows that if you just say "forgive me father for my sins" everything gets wiped clean. You know the preist is in there beating off listening to all the fun you had..
