Some fluid pumps can't pump anything but fluid, so when you first want to start it, and the system is full of air, you need to pour fluid into the pump to make it work. This is called 'Priming the pump'

Pouring water into it to get it pumping...If it's a water pump...Gas if it's a gas pump...etc

Getting gas flowing if it is dry so it will fire up.
