What is the best branch to join if someone wants to be a WELDER?

Navy:Steel Worker(SW), Hull Maintenance Technician(HT).

Army: Metal Worker(44b)

Navy SW's are Seabees. In case u didn't know.

So which would be best? Army Metal Workers or Navy SW or HT?

I can only speak for the Army welders I've met. They end up doing a lot of non-welding work. They have fun when they get to weld, but its not as often as they would like. Don't know how the Navy life is.

Go Navy!

I would go with whatever job is guarenteed. I was in the Navy and I will tell you go with the SW rating more than the HT... HT are notorius for being known as the "plumbers" onboard a ship.

If welding is what you want to do, go with the Navy. I have 10+ years in the army, and I have not meant any welders that actually weld. Good Luck.

The better question for you to ask, isn't which one is better since they are comparable, but the navy has the edge since that job will always be your primary job. The big question is which branch seems more suited to your personality and goals? If you are going to be in a branch for at least 4 years, you have to like more than just your job.

I happened to be in an engineer unit with 44bravos and we fall under the navy seebees. they are both great at what they do, and one will get you ahead in a career well after the service. But I would have to go with Navy Seebees, they do shorter deployments to Iraq and are a little more laid back . But I guess you have to get used to being called a seamen... Go with Commo, there's no better job out there anywher branch you go!

So, you have a lot of answers that are pointing you towards the Navy. I can't say which will be better for you, since they will both teach you welding, allow you to go to college/votech to increase your skills, and you will deploy with both branches.

You have to ask yourself two questions, and be honest with the answers.

1) Which branch GUARANTEES the job? (not promise but a written guarantee)

2) Do you want to be on the ocean, or on land?

Thanks for thinking of serving. I hope that you choose to do so and wish you the best.

Son, just serve your country. But as an Army retired SGM, I would recommend the USN Seabees, most of our support soldiers end up doing bull-**** work!

I would say the Air Force (2A7X1 - AIRCRAFT METALS TECHNOLOGY)

Planes are so much cooler then boats! but its up to u bro.
check out the link and read about the job stated above, i find it to be a damn good one, also if u like check out (2A7X3 - AIRCRAFT STRUCTURAL MAINTENANCE) both seem like fun jobs to me, they are both something im looking into myself, i just need to put some 6 more pounds so i can swear in.

Good luck with your career path!

If you want combat go Army, and maybe you'll get to weld once in your enlistment. Otherwise go Navy
