God of the bible seems to care more about being the only god and being worshipped and no other gods or idols and having a special day to worship himetc etc than he does about other sins of man against man. IS This GOD selfish and conceited or what? this does not sound like any GOD I can beleive in. How some some love and forgiveness in there somewhere GOD . I do not think you are the real god but an imposter.
SAKLAS! Maybe you fooled Moses, but not all of us are that stupid. GOD IS LOVE.
not wrath
not jealousy
not revenge
not punishment
GOD of the universe does not fear knowledge in the hands of his creations. He gave man a brain. Use it.

The men who created the 10 commandments, found it was much easier to enforce them if they came from a god. Hence the first four are about him...

On a side note here, but you said "God of the bible seems to care more about being the only god". Here's a bit of trivia for you. In genesis, before throwing Adam N Eve out of the garden, God speaks to the Elohim. The word Elohim is properly translated as "pantheon" or "brethern". It is a plural word, and the ONLY cultures to translate it otherwise are the hebrews and christians. In that context, god was speaking to other gods...think about that.

Your problem with the first four commandments is concurrent with the biggest problem in any aspect of doctrine. Its man-centered instead of God-centered. If God is truly God, all powerful and all knowing, then shouldn't the first commandments be about Him? You seem to have an inadequate view of God by imputing your own judgement on Him.

God is all about love...keep reading. He sent His Son, fully human and fully God, to die for your sins...that's fairly loving. Old Testament example? How bout creating the world?

If we agree that there is a God and He is GOD, then why should we have any trouble worshiping, and calling Him the only God. If He isnt the only true God then he isnt GOD, and neither are His other spiritual cohorts. Polytheism really makes far less sense then one, single, all powerful creator. And if He is that one creator then He deserves every bit of our worship and praise (and the joy that comes with that :))

God did give us a brain and we should use it :).

The first four commandments are to taken as a whole to mean this is what God expects in His relationship with you. Just like you started dating that special person and after you went steady, that person laid the smackdown on your butt, and some of you know what I am talking about (men especially!!) God is still love, but like a jealous person who doesn't want you messing around with another person, or sleeping around with some other person, and bringing some disease into their presence, God doesn't want you in your relationship with Him bringing Him some disease (sin) and be not being true to him by worshiping other "gods". It is not a matter of fear on His part, he is just setting the ground rules, like I am betting your g/f(b/f, husband, wife, or whatever you are calling it today, flava of the week..., etc.) did after you hooked up a few times. It's about relationship.

Commiting murder is just as bad as lying or baring false witness. The reason why God is talked about in the first four is because if your relationship is not right with Him nothing is going to work out right. And they prove that God is jealous. He loves us so much that He wants all of our love and affection. God is selfish when it comes to our attention and what we love. But He's also selfless because He did give up His ONLY son to save our sorry butts.

When you have a girlfriend do you want her checking out other guys and spending all her time with them or with you? You'd get upset and think that you really weren't all that important to her or worth her time. The same thing goes with God. When we put others above Him and spend time with other "gods" then we are telling Him that He's not important to us.

Umm ever thought about what Muslims think of God.
He isnt the Father of Jesus and if you think of it that away it's much more clearer. In islam God is said to be Forgiving and in Islam a total of 99 Attributes are given. They were given so that we could comprehend God to some extent.
And if you were God wouldnt you want your created things to ask for your help and bow before you instead of some dirty rocks or trees or even fire.i mean comeon your the one who's being onstinate and selfish.

Well, for the same reason that if you wrote them, they would be about you to start with, then about the rest of the laws you wanted your people to keep.
If you don't believe in God, why do you keep asking questions about what He does?
Do you really believe there are two God's? Where did that concept come from?
God from the Bible and God from the universe????????? as two separate Beings'? WOW

Deuteronomy 23:5 (New International Version)
However, the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your GOD LOVES YOU.

1 John 4:16 (New King James Version)
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. GOD IS LOVE, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

He existed before all else. If you love Him and follow after His heart, then all the other things usually fall into place. In other words, you don't want to hurt yourself or anybody else.

Yeah, he is so selfish that he created the world and all living things. So conceited that he stooped to become one of us, to suffer like we suffer, so that we could dare to approach him. He died an agonizing death, just to save us, but how dare he be offended if we worship false gods. Who does he think he is?

Um, I think because He wrote the things!!!
Put yourself in His shoes.
Your trying to get people to honor and respect You.
You want them to treat you right, not talk bad about Your name, and follow Your rules. Your trying to esablish a whole new set of worldly idea with Yourself at the center.

My question is why wouldn't you make the first three (not four, my firend) about Yourself?

And I am not an uber-religious, middle American, bible thumper. I hit church a few times a year, but c'mon! Think man!
